Pointing out that intent is essential to constitute an offence under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), the Karnataka High Court quashed proceedings initiated by the Enforcement Directorate against the payment gateway Razorpay.

The order was passed on March 5 by Justice Hemant Chandangoudar based on a petition by Razorpay. Proceedings had been initiated against the company for alleged negligence in allowing mobile apps dealing in exorbitant interest loans and harassment to conduct transactions without due diligence.
