Can Starlink be the solution it promises to connect rural Nepal?

In a world where internet connections at home no longer need clunky wires and tethered to cumbersome towering poles, Bhutan has become the latest adopter of Starlink’s satellite internet services this December. For years, Bhutan's geography has thwarted traditional internet rollouts, where connectivity demands a fortune in infrastructure investment and an army of engineers.
Enter Starlink, whose ability to sidestep the usual headaches of geography and infrastructure lies in its ingenious design. Picture this: a constellation of 7,000 satellites, each no bigger than a compact car, whizzing around the Earth at a low orbit of about 500 kilometers. This web of satellites blankets the planet with internet coverage, bypassing the need for traditional ground-based infrastructure like poles or cables. Instead, these satellites beam signals straight down to a user terminal—a pizza-box-sized antenna affectionately called "Dishy", installed on your rooftop or backyard. It then swivels autonomously, locking onto the nearest passing satellite, and delivers the internet to your home through a Wi-Fi router.
No towers, poles, or wires required even in remote areas. Job done, then? Well, not quite.
