It’s official. Trump won the election, and toxic masculinity has prevailed. It’s all black and white, you see. There’s the good team player, coach-my-kid’s-pickleball masculinity, and the macho-machismo, “Don’t lift weights or you might turn into a meat-eating Republican” bad masculinity.

Mr. Anderson, one of these masculinities has a future; the other does not.

Turning masculinity into a binary proposition is a paradox for both leftists and conservatives. Progressivism is dependent on subjective definitions of, well, everything. However, when it comes to gender identity, the definition is left up to the individual. There is only “Live your truth.” A unitary provisional truth is replaced by ‘multiple narratives’ and ‘alternative ways of knowing.’ Claims to provisional truth are equated with claims to power. Matt goes fishing for content with the ‘What is a Woman?’ boilerplate question, knowing he’ll get the predictable ‘Well, it’s all relative’ answer. Then, the logical fallacies and circular logic that isn’t actually logic ensue. It’s Emotionalism vs. Empiricism, but all that’s lost on the audience.
