Reuben Vaughn is in his second season as the recruiting coordinator at Texas State after coaching Texas State's defensive tackles during his first two seasons.

Vaughn returned to Texas State in 2011 after serving the last three seasons as the defensive tackles and linebackers coach at Southwest High School in Fort Worth. He helped lead Southwest to the Class 4A Area finals with an 8-4 overall record in 2010 and to the Bi-District playoffs in 2008. In addition, he coached two All-District First Team and one Second-Team linebackers in 2010. He went to Southwest after coaching the offensive line at Texas A&M-Commerce in 2006.  

Vaughn also was an assistant offensive line coach and was involved with the scout team for defense and special teams at Texas A&M from 2003-05 under Dennis Franchione after serving one season as the defensive line coach at Texas State in 2002. He also helped direct the special teams.    

Vaughn began his coaching career as a graduate assistant coach at Texas A&M– Commerce during the 2000 and 2001 seasons in which he coached an All-Conference First-Team defensive end.  

Before entering the coaching ranks, Vaughn played at TCU for Pat Sullivan and Franchione from 1996-1999. He was a member of the 1998 Horned Frog team that tied Louisville for the greatest turnaround in the nation with a 7-5 record and upset USC in the Sun Bowl for the school’s first bowl victory since 1957. The next year TCU claimed a share of the WAC championship before beating East Carolina in the Inaugural Mobile Alabama Bowl.    

Vaughn graduated from TCU with a bachelor’s degree in psychology with a minor in speech communication in 2000 and earned a master’s degree in kinesiology from Texas A&M University-Commerce in 2001. He and his wife, Denise, have a daughter, Morgan Camille.
