White Wings and Soft Cloaks Part 11 Kisuke ran a polishing cloth over Benihime’s blade again and again, using the repetitive motion to occupy his body while he tried to sort through everything he overheard a few hours ago. I adore Dragon Eclipse! I can't wait till you catch up with Tiger Cubs. So I had a few questions (though I understand if you can't answer and I apologize if someone has already asked). So, when Uryuu first came to Karakura after coming back in time, and they're examining their friend's spirit ribbons, Ichigo starts to ask "Were you always..." What was he going to say? Second, did any of the Tiger Cubs get caught in Kaito's pranks? And did Ichigo fight Byakuya on Sokyoku Hill like in canon?
Sorry this took so long to answer XD My work is very exhausting even tho it’s just coding, so sometimes it can take a while before I have the energy to do things.
I’m glad you enjoy it all, tho! I don’t know when I’ll have the time or energy to finish Tiger Cubs, but it’s definitely not been forgotten! I’m keeping short-hand notes of things I want to cover in different sections, it’s just a matter of finding time to write it out
1) Ichigo’s trailing comment: honestly, ngl, this is a case of Past Me being Very Clever and not writing anything down so I actually don’t know for SURE what I was aiming for, but I think it was in reference to Uryuu’s canonical semi-stalking of Ichigo before they meet up.
2) Tiger Cubs getting caught in Kaito’s pranks: I haven’t decided that for certain, but probably XD
3) Ichigo fighting Byakuya: he did, actually! there’s an oblique reference to it in Chapter 29 when Isane is waking up and Unohana is like “Don’t be sorry, we all underestimated his strength”. It’s also the reason Kurosaki isn’t around to join in on the visit to Central 46 with the others.

ok but if mowgli and laharl are Mysterious Catte Merchants... what r they selling -ser
(In response to this set of tags from @kegareki that made me laugh and be very pleased)
Well, Mowgli is probably that merchant that sells trustworthy, high end gear that you can’t find anywhere else. Where he gets these things, no one knows, but it might have to do with the absurd quests he sends you on in the beginning in order to be “worthy” of buying from his shop.
Laharl is the opposite. You can buy things from him even in the beginning of the game. You just have to FIND HIM first, and... well... what you get is a tossup. You give him a hundred coins, he hands you a wrapped item; did you just get a life lesson by buying a 5 coin healing potion for 100, or did you Get The Value by ending up with a weapon strong enough to handle the post-game enemies? And can you even use it? Maybe he handed you a weapon that none of you can use. Maybe he handed you some armor designed for a feline head and not a human’s.
Either way, good luck! You buy one thing and he slips away until the next time you find him.
Blue’s Feathers and Wings Compendium: Atypical Wing Shapes A compendium of different feather marking types that can be used for inspiration in writing and art; especially if you want to be explicitly clear on the markings and don’t want to just have “striped” or “spotted”.
Disclaimer : I am aware that some of these markings have different names when coming from different birds, and that some of these markings are more artistic than realistic, but this for the fun and benefit of others, not for science.
Blue’s Feathers and Wings Compendium: Atypical Wing Shapes These wings are a small array of Atypical wing shapes, complete with flippered wings, flightless wings, and fancy plumes. Again, creating my own names for some of these wing types since there isn’t any official naming of the different shapes, and I want to make it easily understandable for others rather than complicating these things with academic names.
reminder that this blog, while not politically focused, supports BLM. bootlickers and racists aren’t welcome here, and never will be.
which country was it whose population was so intermarried they had to make an app to help people prevent from accidentally hooking up with their cousins
To be fair, they have like 360,000 people and don’t use surnames
What do you mean they don’t use surnames???! How the fuck does that even work??
Their names are patronyms and matronym, meaning formed from their parents names. Like so: Luke Anakinsson and Leia Padmesdottir (Padme’s daughter). Phone books and other directories are organised by first name. I think it was only recently they allowed foreign immigrants to keep their last names once they got the nationality
You left out the best bit: while the convention is that males use patronyms and females matronyms, you can choose which parent you want to honour with the -nym; you could also be Luke Padmesson or Leia Anakinsdottir if you want.
Also just to point out that for many places, surnames are a relatively recent thing for most social strata. Patro/matronymics predate them in almost every part of Europe, and in many places surnames started out as patronymics. This is why you have all the surnames ending in -son/-sen in the UK and Scandinavia, -ex in Spanish, -vich (or a variation thereof) in Slavic languages, Mac- in Gaelic, O’- in Irish etc. All these are patronymics that predate the use of surnames.
Plus, the arrival of the surname is a very recent thing in many parts of Europe. In the Nordics, only people belonging to the estates (so nobility, clergy, bourgeoisie and land-owning peasantry, a small minority of the total population) had surnames before the 19th century. The vast majority of people would only have a first name, using either patro/matronymic (or in Finland the name of the house or village where they worked and lived) to distinguish themselves from those with the same name if needed. In Finland, people have been required by law to have a surname for only a century (exactly: the first law on surnames came into effect in 1920). Iceland never did that.
And ultimately, why should they? A surname is just a convention that people have at some point decided on – and one that emphasises your patrilinear family over you as an individual and the rest of your relatives.
Also, since I only now noticed one of the previous rebloggers observing in tags that the Icelandic system must be hard on non-binary people, I give you this further gem:
In 2019, changes were announced to the laws governing names. Given names will no longer be restricted by gender. Moreover, Icelanders who are officially registered with non-binary gender will be permitted to use the patro/matronymic suffix -bur (“child of”) instead of -son or -dóttir .
Blue’s Feathers and Wings Compendium: Standard Wing Shapes I have expanded the traditional 4 types; Highspeed, Elliptical, Low Aspect and High Aspect ratio, because they were very narrow and vague categories for the most part, adding High Energy, Thermal Soaring, Night Glider, and Passerine wings. I feel that these extra types make it easier to understand and visualize the differences and similarities between wing shapes.
I’ve renamed Low Aspect to Powered Soaring , and High Aspect to Dynamic Soaring for the purposes of the fact that names made it hard to understand purpose and were easily confusable.
A lot of these wing types are also affected by tailfeather shape and size, and that will change their agility and energy expenditure as the tail also generates lift.

akaluan reblogged prokopetz Follow Concept: Chronicles of Darkness style hidden-world political urban fantasy, except instead of vampires versus werewolves it’s sports anime protagonists versus magical girls.prokopetz #the daywalker … magical sports girl…. (via @notverybrightraven)karl-the-not-so-great Follow And sports wizards are those little feckers from Inazuma Elevenprokopetz Nah, those are still sports anime protagonists – they’re just really high level sports anime protagonists. To carry the premise’s internal logic forward, sports anime protagonists with bullshit super powers are the setting’s equivalent of vampire elders! Now, if you want to bring mages into the mix to complete the Chronicles of Darkness parallel, that’s an interesting question. Given that sports anime protagonists are standing in for vampires, and magical girls for werewolves (with our hypothetical sporty magical girl being the equivalent of some powergaming weirdo’s vampire werewolf character, of course), what popular anime protagonist archetype is our mage equivalent? Remember that they don’t necessarily have to be literal wizards in the source material, in the same way that our vampire stand-ins don’t necessarily drink blood and our werewolf stand-ins don’t necessarily turn into wolves.locuas642 Follow Consider: Over specific mundane club activity treated as serious business.………That or children’s card game.prokopetz I actually quite like the slice-of-life anime protagonist option. Breaking it down:They fit neatly into the “mage” slot in the setting’s implicit hierarchy of ass-kicking: i.e., vampires/sports anime protagonists – powerful all the time; werewolves/magical girls – ordinary in human form, ungodly wrecking machines while transformed; mage/club member – ordinary all the time, relying on special gadgets or techniques to competeThey also fit the setting’s implicit social milieu; not only do school clubs’ topical spheres of interest create a natural parallel to mages’ tradition/foundation structure (i.e., as opposed to werewolves’/magical girls’ pack structure and vampires’/sports anime protagonists’ strength and charisma driven dominance hierarchy), but the ridiculously powerful student councils they inevitably end up sparring with can readily stand in for exarchs/technocratsClub kids’ shenanigans are the most plausibly deniable as improbable applications of merely mundane skill, paralleling mages being the group that has both the greatest ability and the greatest need to pass themselves off as mere mortalsThey readily encompass many of the more specialised suggestions from the notes, like cooking anime protagonists and the casts of Cute Girls Doing Nothing shows and such(Also, on a purely personal level I like it because it means the Eizouken kids end up in the mix; I trust I don’t need to explain why that’s a selling point!)oneshykitten Follow I feel like the children’s card game kids are the Changeling analog. Making bargains with powers stronger than you can understand. You didn’t necessarily know what you were signing up for when you started playing. You can’t trust your best friend because only one of you can win, but you also won’t survive on your own. You have to know exactly what the rules are, even really esoteric things, and the ability to find loopholes can be everything. If you don’t win, something unspeakably terrible is going to happen to you. Your family has no idea what’s going on. You can’t trust the people in charge. prokopetz That’s a wonderful analysis, but I can’t help but feel that its remit is a little narrow. “Supernatural children’s card games” isn’t really a full-fledged genre; it’s mostly just Yu-Gi-Oh and a handful of failed imitators, which doesn’t give us much material to go on when defining the sub-splats (i.e., their clans, aspects, etc.). Plus, going full Yu-Gi-Oh would push the tone pretty grim compared to the other splats’ thematics. I’d be inclined to roll children’s card game anime together with Pokémon-alikes and such; heck, maybe that could be the methodological axis of their sub-splats – e.g., the card-collectors, the monster-tamers, etc. (Obviously they’d have a pretentious collective title for themselves, like “the Players of Games”, which all the other splats would immediately abbreviate to “Gamers”, much to their annoyance!) Most of what you’ve set forth would still apply. And of course, to complete the picture, harem anime protagonists would parallel Chroncles of Darkness’ Sleepwalkers: mortals who exhibit some sort of unusual immunity to the Masquerade and can see supernaturals as they truly are, but who possess no powers themselves. In the context of this hypothetical setting, they’d be the normies who can recognise magical girls while they’re transformed, realise that the things sports animal protagonists do shouldn’t really be possible, etc., but no-one will ever believe them. To really belabour the analogy, we might propose that whatever special quality makes them immune to the Masquerade also makes them (not necessary romantic) relationship magnets for supernaturals of all sorts.#but i really love this#for later#no idea what i'll do with this gem of an idea#but i love it so

And who better to start poking at the transitional period than Kisuke Urahara?#phoenixwithahoardoflibraries#replies

Honestly I need to reread the light novels to find those sections specifically dedicated to the “gods” so I can remember how everything is related. Honestly the first time I read it, the only thing that stuck in my head was that the FSM was there and that everyone has their “domains” where they’re trying to get belief in a higher power active again. So it probably slots pretty cleanly with the existence of Ammy and the others, I just.. don’t remember TtE’s take. Like he just appears a few feet in the air, some residual light fades away, and the captains are all looking at an interloper who looks like a mini-Urahara that acts a little ditzy (as most just know Kisuke as Omni atm). Awkward. (And I can't tell if Kisuke would be more flailing or aggressive.)XD That would certainly be an interesting scenario! I might actually write that at some point, honestly, it sounds fun.Honestly, Kisuke would probably alternate between flailing and being suspicious/aggressive, at least at first? Because he’s trying to be a Good Captain but Man That’s Suspicious. And also because his social skills are basically nil. He’d be such a mess and I feel like Kaito would probably be initially surprised and then slowly turn this combination of gleeful and understanding at the sight of his socially awkward father being, well... Socially Awkward.#Anonymous#replies
