Missouri freshman defensive end Williams Nwaneri is expected to enter the transfer portal per multiple reports, including one from 247Sports' Matt Zenitz.
Nwaneri signed with Missouri out of Lee's Summit North High School as the No. 6 overall player in the country and a consensus five-star recruit in the Class of 2024. During his freshman season with Missouri, Nwaneri appeared in four games, recording two tackles and a sack.
Nwaneri is not officially in the portal at this time. Sources tell PowerMizzou.com the Tigers have been working to keep Nwaneri over the last 24 hours. While it is still possible he stays at Mizzou and does not enter the portal, it is unlikely at this time.
Nwaneri had offers from basically every school in the country when he chose Mizzou over Oklahoma.
"NIL it's a lot that goes into it," Nwaneri told 247Sports when he committed. "I try not to get distracted by it but you have to take it into account. Some of these programs, it's a lot of money they're talking about. You have to take it into account but I'm not making my decision based and that but you definitely have to take it into consideration. It's going to play a factor but it's not the main thing.
""Just really comfortability, relationships, really somewhere I feel I can go and prosper and be successful."
"There is a lot that goes into the decision."
To enter the portal, players have to fill out paperwork with the school's compliance office which can take up to 48 hours to process. At this point, Nwaneri has stated his intent to enter the portal. Sources indicated he told the Missouri coaches on Monday. Barring a last-minute deal being struck, it appears Nwaneri's time at Mizzou will be short-lived.
UPDATE: Eli Hoff of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch is reporting that Mizzou has submitted Nwaneri's paperwork to enter the portal.
