Syrian rebels have taken down a statue of Hafez al-Assad, Bashar Assad's father, in the center of Hama. The rebels are reportedly rapidly advancing toward Homs, one of the country's largest cities. They are now in its suburbs. If Homs is captured, Syrian rebels could cut off the coast from the rest of the country and open a direct route to Damascus.
