I think you're arguing two different points. I don't have to like Noah Antwiler as a person, but I can enjoy his Spoony One review show. Honestly I think the bigger issue here is that the line between real life person and reviewer is really blurred. TGWTG is full of reviewers like that and I feel a lot of the drama comes from the "reviewer" personality becoming the real life person one and leading to fighting.
But so much of his personality influences his videos. Like you're a watching a video and it's a guy airing his opinions about stuff. How can you not like the person but still enjoy his videos, which are all infused with his personality? His misogynist, hateful, vulgar personality.
Well, a lot of the people on the site have made it clear they're playing a character. The Nostalgia Critic is a loud, petulant child, but Doug Walker is one of the nicest guys ever (so I hear). The Cinema Snob hates exploitation and lives by the word of Roger Ebert, but Brad Jones loves exploitation and never listens to movie critics (except for when he needs to find the worst movie of the week to send his friend Jake to).
However, Spoony is a case where the line between the character of Spoony and the actor Noah Antwiler is razor thin. Considering all the loud arguments on Twitter (before all this), it's no wonder people have issues with him.

Same way I can watch a movie and cheer for an actor even though the actor in real life is a douche. Should I never watch a film staring Tom Cruise cause he's a nut case? I'd say Noah's issues and the Spoony One's "issues" are two separate things. Noah feels lonely/depressed and he's taking that anger out on his former co-workers at TGWTG, Spoony is played as a bitter old gamer reliving things from his child hood that piss him off. Yes they can at times be similar (getting angry/pissed off at stuff that bothers them) but it's still different kinds of anger.
Edit: To try and clarify, Spoony is getting angry at a movie/game and venting his frustrations at it. Noah is sexually starved/lonely/depressed and is getting angry at his own lack of self confidence and venting his frustrations at himself and anyone who tries to help him.
The difference is Tom Cruise doesn't act as a nutcase in his movies. Spoony in his videos is the real Spoony. I also take issue with supporting someone who makes public rape threats.

I enjoyed his earlier work, when it seemed that the games/movies themselves were the focus of the review, rather than what are they now, which is a vehicle for his never ending procession of absolutely hilarious comedy characters. I wonder what the point of those E3 videos are, there doesn't seem to be a clear focus in regards to the consistency of his material and the audience he's attempting to serve. It's a shame really, as I see so much wasted potential in the persona/website he's built.
Oh, and if you've ever looked on his store at the t-shirts, the fuse box t-shirt tells you all need to know about how much he values the product he's created. I'd be seriously embarrassed attempting to sell something as shit as this.

Makes one wonder whether this was bad timing or if this was prime opportunity. I honestly think Lupa saw a chance to rattle his cage while most of the top brass are indisposed. Behind the scenes stupidity. And Spoony being as he is right now reacted just as she hoped.

And it was clear they didn't wanted to fire him right away, they first suspended him for 4 weeks and asked him to not insults fellow contributors‎, he just refused and shat on everyone then they fired him?
They fired Rizzo/ThatAussieGuy for the same reasons ( harassing female contributors‎..said to Lindsay Ellis "NChick" he wanted her to suck his dick) if anything they give Spoony too much extra time(since I guess they wanted him to just man up and apologize for the site to not lose more views).

Oh, c'mon don't knock Angry Joe, he's the voice of the people, the voice of a generation of gamers raised on X-Box 360, Halo and Call of Duty. When he speaks, he speaks for all of us. When Geoff Keighley tears him a new asshole for being totally unprepared and out of his depth, he doesn't just tear Joe's anus, he tears all of our anuses. And you know what? that hurts, that hurts alot.

Joe is merely saying that he is is friend and he's not going to abandon him. His tweet basically said that if anything Spoony can use all the friends he can get right now (I.E don't leave him alone to continue to fuck himself).

Did I SAY I thought it was free? Absolutely not. Hell, I didn't even COMPLAIN about the ads. But the site got along just fine, and was in fact very profitable, for several years before ads started showing up in the middle of NC videos. I'm sure that Doug would rather NOT have ads in the middle of his videos if at all possible. The fact that they're there at all says that the site's revenue is down.
And as far as "Internet videos make no money for most people", this might be true, but for the last few years they've made Doug enough money that he's been able to live off the profits. That was before the interstitial ads.
With ease, because they generally don't bleed over. Sure his personality influences his review, but I've yet to see him go on a misogynistic tangent during, say, an ultima review. It's more that he is a very, very negative person, but that actually helps in this case because he is really good at coming down on whatever he is reviewing. But anyway, he's capable of focusing on the movie/game/whatever he is talking about and leave all the drama behind, so his misogyny is not an issue.

The problem is that particular revenue stream is in decline. I look at Spoony's website and I see a donation button and a link to an Amazon Wishlist, which is bollocks basically. You need to earn that outside of begging for cash and gifts. Given the diminishing returns of ad-driven content, I'm surprised Spoony has never attempted a premium subscripton based service; offering content such as podcasts, exclusive videos and closer fan interaction (such as movie/game review suggestions). As long as you keep the major stuff free, surely he has a big enough fanbase to warrant investigating such an angle.
It actually hasn't. ChannelAwesome has been running off venture capital for a while, and happened to do so at a time when internet videos were overvalued.
It is no longer the case. Advertisers are not paying as much for banner ads and traditional internet advertising, and that's a large reason why all the major content providers are moving towards monetizing their videos, whether it's youtube or hulu by either subscription or more ads.
It was going to happen eventually.
I have no idea why if she honestly did plan this out. As I said behind the scenes crap that we never heard about. Hell maybe she just didn't like the guy and wanted to piss him off. Just seems like perfect timing and this did all start over a twitter comment spoony made a month ago that Lupa decided to just now get upset over.
Or it was all just a huge case of bad timing....we'll likely never know either way.

In response to the bolded (because the rest of your post is spot on), the only thing I've ever read about CA running on any sort of venture capital is that piece from Entrepreneur magazine, which stated that Michaud, Ellis, and Walker started CA with a $5,000 loan from a friend's father. The same article states that they made $150,000 in revenue in 2009. Obviously that number has declined, but still.

Guy needs to be taking off the net for a while. As a frequent visitor to his site and moreso to TGWTG I'm disappointed to see this happening the way it is.
I don't know what you mean, the last video of him i saw was the Tekken CGi movie review, which was pretty decent, and i didn't even notice any of this.
If you don't follow him outside of reviews and videos (minus vlogs, i guess) it's not that obvious that he has lost it.
Anyway, yeah after reading some of the stuff posted here, i think he should take some time off the internet, put his shit together, maybe start seeing a therapist if he's not already, and then come back doing what people are interested in him for: funny reviews/videos.
Personally, and i think many people share the same feeling, i don't give a shit about all this drama, nobody's dead, nobody's hurt, lets' move over.
Then again, if he wants to continue his descent in this shithole, he's free to fuck himself up, i can live without his videos, but it would be a waste.

Geoff acted like an arrogant asshole.
I can fully understand Joe in that situation. Joe even had the balls to show the interview and comment on it. I mean he was getting irritated by Geoff right from the beginning the whole time. When asked, he even SAID Final Fantasy and Geoff acted like "this year? really?" (pretending like "you are wrong" although he was actually right), so of course this irritated him even more. Even if he was 99.9% sure that it got released this year, would you say: "Geoff, you are wrong"? Should he have said "Geoff, don't ignore me, we are having an interview"? Is this the way to behave in an interview? Also Joe didn't want to act like an ass himself. He wanted to be polite. He wanted to make an interview. If Geoff didn't behave like a douche right from the start, I could blame Joe a bit, but in this case? No. Delaying the interview the whole time. Then telling him "now, you got 2 minutes" right in front of a crowd. Ignoring him the whole time. Yes, "totally destroyed". I would rather say totally destroyed his image.
Joe should have probably said: "Geoff, not in this place and not with this timing, Sorry, Bye". Although I can understand it, that he still did it, just because he wanted to make that interview. He was not expecting that much asshole-ness.
Actually seeing this interview made me like Joe more. And I see Geoff as an asshole since then.

Well the worst thing on Geoff/Spike's part, was to make Angry Joe drive there from like two states (i can't remember exactly, but it was mentioned in that video rant) just to fuck him over, that was not cool, if you don't have the time or will to do the interview don't waste people's time.
As for the rest, Angry Joe is not professional in the slightest and didn't take it that maturely either.

Biggest disappointment.
Personally I think their treatment of Joe was much more dignified than their treatment of that YouTube vlog guy they brought on last year's show and dedicated like 5 minutes to.

Even though both Joe and Geoff didn't come out of that looking too nice, Joe made some very big missteps in that interview. You never want to start off an interview with the words "I have a bone to pick with you!" Moreover, you also don't want to say "Your awards show appeals to the lowest common denominator!" unless you're fully prepared for the heat (which Joe was not).
Geoff did come off looking like a dick, but Joe looked woefully unprofessional, and his post-VGA video lamenting about the fact ("I was supposed to be the voice of the gamers!") didn't help things.

I noticed the signs a while ago. I tried to deny it. I told myself, "It was just a phase, some growing pains. This is just a transitional period. Things will get better." Then the unthinkable happened. The line was crossed, and I lost all respect... because I had to admit, thatguywiththeglasses.com was a mere shell of what it had been in days past. It proved that by firing Spoony.
You know, I began getting a bit nervous when I saw their shiny, brand-new ads: chrstianmingle.com, "Jesus Loves You," and the like all over the site. I thought, "Well, now we know why The Amazing Atheist got fired!" But I took that in stride; even in the youtube atheist community, TJ is a controversial figure. (Honestly, I never know what to make of the guy.) Honestly, Spoony getting fired is a symptom of the problem, not the problem itself. And before you say anything, Spoony isn't the problem.
First of all, I want to say this: During the past year, Spoony is the only TGWTG contributor who managed to make me laugh out loud, both in the few and far-between times he made an official episode, AND in his vlog reviews. Not to mention that I thought his tweets were hilarious. Honestly, if TGWTG were The Beatles, Spoony would be John Lennon. He's that good.
What really pisses me off is the alleged reason he got fired. Before you say anything, no, it's not because Obscurus Lupa can't tell the difference between rape and domination. (Of course, this sad fact opens up a whole new set of questions about hers and Phelous' sex life which I'm not even qualified to answer, other than to say that it must be sadly vanilla.) No, he got fired because TGWTG did what every candy-ass Hollywood insider has done since the beginning of time: played it safe and kowtowed to the fans.
One thing you need to know about Spoony: he's a troll and an evil clown. His review of Final Fantasy 8? A masterpiece of flamebait. Even Encyclopedia Dramatica paid him respect, once upon a time. Can you picture a guy like that kissing fanboy ass?
Yeah, neither could I. So it's no surprise to me that the guy, every so often, busts his fans and his haters' collective chops. Hell, he's was doing it LONG before the giant breakup with Scarlett, and he'll be doing it when he gets a new girlfriend. So these past few days, he's been busting everyone's balls, just like he always does. Spoony hasn't changed. The only people who HAVE changed are the folks running TGWTG. And, of course, the other jerks who interact with him and claim to be his fans. The guy went through a life-change, shit hit the fan, and a bunch of COMPLETE STRANGERS tried to offer him pity. Now, I don't know about Spoony, but if some random assholes tried to offer me pity and sanctimonious platitudes, my reaction would be, "FUCK PITY!" And I'd go off on them, like he did.
Of course, nobody likes it when you refuse their pity, since it makes them think that you probably don't need them to straighten yourself out, even assuming you needed it to begin with. So the fanboys went sniveling to TGWTG because Spoony... did what he always does. The only difference is that TGWTG actually LISTENED to them! And so he was suspended, and eventually fired.
IOW, instead of standing by their best reviewer, TGWTG bowed to HATEMAIL! (Oh, and don't even think for a second that the Jesus-freaks who sponsor the site weren't involved. Spoony calls out D&D hate and misconception all the time. Chances are, Counter-Monkey has as much to do with Spoony getting fired as the twitter drama does.)
