You are John Half-Life. After a late night of being ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up on some memphis moonpies you arrive late and subsequently are assigned to a less than desirable assignment. This unjust unfair treatment by your supposed colleagues fills you with hatred jealousy and lust driving you to perpetrate an extended workplace shooting incident with the aid of illegal aliens with magic powers, hostile wild life and the government. Through the utilization of questionably rendered but tactically sufficient array of weaponry, a copious amount of A/C vent exploration and stage 2 loot-goblinitis, fully elucidate your fellow employees and the quite reasonably maligned management on the depth of your displeasure.

5/10 the spas 12 does not have two barrels.

An absolute classic fps game with memorable set pieces and a unique atmosphere. Valve described the game best on the back of the box: "RUN. THINK. SHOOT. LIVE."

Over 25 years old, and Valve still updates it like it was released yesterday. One of the best FPS games even to this day, and one of the greatest pioneers of the genre, comparable with the original DOOM.

Great game for its age! The story is amazing and the gameplay is nice. I like that you can also play it multiplayer with your friends on any map you want. Truly a masterpiece.

Not much can say that hasn't been said before.

While a tad outdated it still holds up pretty well overall and after replaying it about a week ago, going into a deep dive with all the weapons and how the game as a whole functions, it's become one of my favorite games period.

I'm still relatively new to PC gaming. Going back to a generation of games I missed out on (mostly due to age, partly due to only having a GameCube growing up.)

I thought the dated graphics would bother me. But this was honestly one of the most refreshing single-player experiences I've had. Being left to my own devices for solving puzzles, directing myself to the next objective, and finding myself genuinely curious toward environmental story clues actually made me excited to play this game when I was getting home from work.

It doesn't matter that the game is 25 years old. If you haven't played it yet, you're probably missing out.

for a game that old enough for a PHD in theoretical physics at this point it's not bad, apart from being sort of janky at times it's pretty aight really good piece of gaming history.

This should be the pack-in title for Steam. Basically any computer can run it, it just got an amazing update to make it compatible with all sorts of things. It's got big historical value. There are Snarks in it. If I was Gabe Newell I would make this the Wii Sports of Steam but I also understand that literally anyone can make a Steam Account so...
Buy it on sale? Get the Valve Complete Pack if you can. It's usually dirt cheap on any holiday sale.

Even at it's age, Half-Life remains one of the most engaging games I've played. My nostalgia needs not to bend some sort of reasoning as to why it's good, because it simply is. Peak game.

HAIIIII GAMER GURLSSS!!!
Today we’ve going to be a little bit move seviuous compaved to the usual silliness I partake in, ov not I don’t vealy cave.

I’ve seen the first ride on a monorail countless times, it’s probably a scene from a game I’ve seen the most amount of time. Not because I completed this game many times, today was actually the first time in 12 years I’ve actually completed the game from beginning to the end.

Now. I would love to write a structured review where I give my thoughts on every aspect of this 26 year old game. But I feel like it is somewhat pointless, there are thousands of reviews that do that, plus it would take me some time to form thoughts on stuff, so I would just say stuff that I remembered.

It is not hard, for a game from 1998 it is actually great. Compare it to anything from that time period and tell me that it didn't age better than the others. Most tough and difficult parts of this game are when you're supposed to think outside the box, for me the toughest moment was when in chapter 13: "Forget About Freeman!" I think, could be the one before. When you deal with a tank and enter a two story building with Calhoun inside, he opens up armory and where the hell am I supposed to go? (there is a window you can climb out of, to parkour into the ladder that has exploded) This moment was tough because compared to games that were released in recent years, stuff you CAN interact with looks just like stuff you CAN'T interact with, it is quite confusing from time to time, it is actually one of the reasons why I couldn't finish this game for so many years. I know lots of people had issues with chapter 8: "On A Rail" for the same reason, they thought that shooting the direction thingy would do nothing, so they'd just don't shoot the direction thingy. There are countless times you can get stuck simply because you'd think that doing something won't work, so you don't even try, just like in real life.

Weapons are weapons I suppose. There are interesting stuff like how after you stop meeting the military, you will have little to no ammo for certain weapons. Some of them are creative and fun, but I wouldn't say that they are special or anything.

It is hard to say anything about Half Life, it is hard to say anything *new* about Half Life, it really is one of the most important games in the industry, without it gaming landscape would've looked completely different, and just because of that, I feel like everyone should try to play this game and try to complete it, it deserves it.

If Doom is the original Super Mario Bros then Half-Life is Super Mario 64.

However at the end of the day influence doesn't matter if a game isn't good or not, so is Half-Life a good game, does it still hold up over 25 years later? I'm not a big FPS guy so maybe I'm not the right person to ask this question, but my short time with Half-Life was some of the most fun I've ever had playing an FPS even if I do think it shows it's age in some parts and is rough at times especially with enemy balancing and some cryptic old game design in puzzles (Have no idea how people finished this game in 98 without guides, had to look up where to go and what to do multiple times on YouTube lmao). Even 25 years later regardless of how impactful and influential it is, it would still be a masterclass in environmental storytelling, level design, gunplay and sheer creativity as far as I'm concerned. There will never be another game quite like Half-Life.
