🚨Swiggy IPO gets oversubscribed led by QIB bids Swiggy’s IPO was oversubscribed 1.07 times by the third day, driven largely by QIBs, who oversubscribed their portion 1.52 times. Retail investors subscribed to 97% of their portion, while Non-Institutional Investors (NIIs) made bids for 22% of their allocation. Swiggy's employee quota also saw strong demand, with a subscription rate of 1.38 times. 🚨 Back-end battle: Rivals like Razorpay test JUSPAY’s lead in payment infrastructure Juspay is arguably the quietest growth story in a kingdom of fast-growing startups. It has to do with the niche it operates in – payment orchestration – where it has built a virtual monopoly in India. Juspay processes 125 million transactions a day and has a total payment volume of more than $500 billion. In October 2023, Razorpay announced Optimizer, a payment router or orchestration product, to compete with the incumbent, Juspay. It is a battle for the ages that dates back to four years ago, according to product-manager folklore. “PMF doesn’t have a passport, but you do.” - Rohit Khanna, Founder of Toplyne Before founding Toplyne, Rohit was VP-Product & part of the founding team at CleverTap; he has close to 15 years of experience in Tech and SaaS. At yesterday’s DeVC dugout, Rohit spoke to a group of 10 SaaS founders at our Bangalore office covering his lessons from the 0-100 Clevertap journey & 0-1 Toplyne journey ⤵ 1️⃣India v/s USA (business buyers) - USA buyers look for specialized products which are the best-in-class at one particular task / function - Indian buyers prefer horizontal products which can do multiple tasks / functions well (but, maybe not be category winners) 2️⃣The US is “money rich but time poor” & talent is very expensive. - So the bar of products is higher and they care a lot about product experience, don't like hacks and appreciate quality. They also see value in automating and making their jobs easier vs throwing more people at the problem as talent is very expensive. 3️⃣India v/s USA (product nuance) - USA is Desktop native, India is Mobile native - Your early customers shape your product roadmap and there could be different requirements of different markets. 4️⃣India v/s USA (hiring) - SaaS founders in USA hire a Product Marketer early (first 10-15 hires) - Whereas in India, we place lower emphasis on Positioning. Considering the reasons above, PMF in India cannot be automatically exported to the USA. This is Rohit’s big learning. 5️⃣SaaS Sales Myth 1 - “PLG means no Sales” - PLG & Sales are complimentary - Almost every successful PLG company (Notion, Figma, Miro etc) graduates to selling to Enterprises where a Sales team is absolutely essential 6️⃣SaaS Sales Myth 2 - “The company chooses PLG v/s Sales" - Per Rohit, the choice between PLG & Sales is NOT yours to make; it is a combination of the buyer persona and how they choose to adopt products & your product nuances (Time to onboard, time to value,etc) Rohit will be coming back to host a few more DeVC dugout sessions with SaaS founders.
