Readers respond: Vulnerable patients need integrated services

I’m a 46-year-old cancer patient with a disabling Connective Tissue Disorder who receives care at OHSU. I am devastated to learn OHSU is slashing parts of its Comprehensive Pain Center in 2025. They are eliminating staff in massage, chiropractic, Rolfing and acupuncture – specialists who make an incalculable difference in helping patients heal from injuries and manage pain.

OHSU currently hosts one of the few Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome specialists in the region. Many providers who see Dr. Alena Guggenheim’s patients have developed expertise in treating patients like me. EDS patients cannot simply go to providers in the community expecting they will know how to safely treat us.
