Liverpool 27/01/05

I met My Chemical Romance last night in Liverpool!

And it was the most amazing experience of my life! Uh, long-ass rambling story behind the cut...

So me and my friend Aoife flew into Liverpool at 1:30 (we're from Ireland) and by the time we did all the boring stuff like eating, checking into where we were staying and all that jive, we got to the venue just before 4pm. And because we are wily, we got to the top of the queue when the security dude told us to start queueing.

The queue was wicked boring and cold. The tour buses were parked beside us and the most exciting thing that happened was Ray walked up the street with one of the MCR tour staff and they had a heap of McDonald's stuff and they got on the bus. I seemed to be the only one to see that it was Ray cos he had his hair under a hood, but I kept quiet cos I didn't wanna draw attention to him and have asses go over and knock on the bus door while he was eating...

So - 7pm came and we ran our asses inside (I was so cold that I tripped up the first 5 steps, my feet wouldn't work) and got the optimum position in the whole place - that is, right in front of Frank :)

Communique weren't bad (I met their bass player John outside later - total doll) and then it was 8pm and they were setting up for MCR and Bob came out and no one knew who he was so me and Aoife were screaming "Bob!" but he couldn't hear us, and then I could see Frank and Mikey at the side of the stage and started totally freaking out cos I've never seen MCR before and I was squealing like a huge loser and the security guard was shaking his head sadly at me lol!

So they came on and they were amazing. AMAZING. Like no show I have ever been to before, like nothing I have ever experienced before and I was just mesmerized. Frank is incredible. There are no words to describe the way that boy performs, he is just astounding. He actually scared the hell outta me a couple of times - I thought he was gonna get Gerard or Mikey a few times with his mic stand, and I was certain he was gonna hit himself in the face with his guitar, and then he stood up on a high speaker at the side of the stage and I was freaking out, I was scared he was gonna jump or fall, cos I'm a loser and I worry about these things lol!

And his eyes kept rolling back. For real. I don't know if he does it on purpose or if it just happens cos he's so into it, but he looks like he's in the throes of intense sexual pleasure.

God bless him...

Gerard was fucking amazing too - at one point he was like, "We're gonna dedicate this to..." and some dude yelled someone's name that started with R and Gerard was like, "Roughage? Roughage? What does that mean? Is that a football term? 'I give you a penalty for roughage!'"

Unless you're European, you can't really get how funny that is lmfao!

So after the show, we went outside before Taking Back Sunday came on and decided we were gonna wait and meet the band since we'd come so far to see them...

So we went down to the stage exit door and it was open and Bob was standing there, drinking a can of Diet Coke and I was like, "OMG, Bob!" and I pointed at him and he was like, "Me?" So he came over and we told him how amazing the show was and how we'd had to come to the UK to see them cos they didn't come to Ireland and he was like, "Yeah, it sucks, but there's nothing we can do about it" and signs all our stuff and then Aoife was like, "Can we get hugs?" And he was like, "You wanna hug me? I'm all sweaty" lol - so cute. So he hugs Aoife and spills Diet Coke all over her! But he was so adorable she didn't mind :) Bob is great - and he gives good hugs too :)

So Bob goes off to the bus and Mikey comes out - he was wearing a Blazers bobble hat - sweet - and he was carrying some v odd looking items, I have no idea what they were and we're like, "Mikey, sign our stuff please!" and he's like, "Sure, of course!" And we got Mikey hugs too and that boy is damn skinny! But very cute...

So about an hour and a half passes and we're waiting outside in the freezing cold with a couple of other ppl and then Ray came out again but he had his hood up and he just walked past and didn't even look at us so we let him be, figured he didn't wanna be bothered...

Then just before Taking Back Sunday finished, Gerard comes out, carrying a heap of stuff and limping, walking with a cane - he looked v tired but he is so very pretty - no makeup, jeans and a hoodie and peaked beanie hat and I went over to him and I was so nervous cos he looked kinda out of it and I was like, "Gerard?" really quiet and he looks over and I'm like, "Can you please sign this?" And he's like, "Can I put this stuff in my bunk? I'll come back." So he goes off to the bus and I didn't think he could come back, cos everyone was about to come out right by the buses but lo and behold, he limps his ass back down the hill and some little punk-ass bitch kid runs up all gushing and shit and I was so mad cos the that kid was behind me in the queue before the show and all he did was diss Gerard and call him fat and ugly grrrrrrrrrr!

So Gerard signs my CD booklet and Aoife is like, "Show him your tattoo!" so I show him my MCR tattoo on my arm and he leaned real close to read it cos it was pretty dark by the buses and he was like, "Awesome!!" And he signed my arm, which I never wanna wash off lol and then he was like, "I better go, I shouldn't really be out here" which was true cos if he didn't hurry the crowd was gonna be between him and the bus so he left.

I was totally in a state of bliss at that point, I couldn't believe I had met them all - BUT Frank still hadn't come out and he was the one I really wanted to see so we waited and the crowd came out and hung around and slowly dispered until there were about 20 people there waiting for Taking Back Sunday.

And then - Frank came out!

In his green jacket with the hood up, carrying a heap of clothes and posters, and I was like, "Frank..." but I said it too quiet cos I was so overwhelmed - I can't begin to describe how beautiful he is. He glows. So I'm behind him and the guy in front of him stopped and I tapped Frank on the shoulder and he turns around and we're face to face and I can't believe I'm actually looking at him and he's looking at me (yes, I sound like a total lame-o, I know) and I'm like, "Can you sign something for me please?" and he smiles and he's like, "I have no hands - but I'll come back out."

So he goes to the bus and I'm leaning against the wall in a half-swoon cos Frank Iero just spoke to me so we go up to the bus and he takes a few minutes to come out so I'm freaking out and praying that he didn't forget or something but then...

He comes back out! And he's about to light a cigarette, but he sees me and comes over and we tell him how great the show was and he's like thank you and stuff, then he asks us if we're from the States - and we tell him we're Irish and he's like, "Oh cool! Cos you don't have English, Liverpudlian accents" - people tell me I have an American accent all the time - I don't know why...

So I give him my Pencey Prep cd booklet to sign and he's like, "Oh my God!!" Lol! It's like he hasn't seen it in years and he asks me my name and I'm thinking Frank Iero wants to know my name!! So I'm like, Marina - and he leans up against the wall to sign the CD book and asks me how to spell my name and he's halfway through writing when he turns to me and asks incredulously, "Do you like it??" Lol! And I'm like, "Of course, I love it! It's my second favorite album!" and he gives me a funny look and asks "Second after what?" and I'm like, "Bullets" and he laughs and he's like, "Oh, okay, cool..."

So then I ask can we take a picture and he automatically goes to put his arm around me and I'm fucking freaking out - totally - so I put my arm around his waist and it's the most fucking surreal moment of my life and Aoife takes the picture and he shakes my hand and thanks me for coming and says "Nice to meet you" and then hugs us both and at that point I'm just on another planet, I'm so fucking astounded that I have my arms around Frank Iero and he has his arms around me and he squeezes me real tight and I'm thinking, You are soooooooooo small, you're the smallest boy ever, which he is - he's a few inches smaller than me and I'm 5'7, and he's so tiny and slight and so ethereally beautiful that you just wanna snuggle him forever but then he's waving like, "Take care, safe home" and we walk back down the hill and thus ends the best day of my life.

And I still can't believe it actually happened to me.
