A crane count was conducted early in the morning on Saturday, November 30, 2024. As a result of the count, a total of 12,992 cranes were confirmed, including 12,036 Hooded Cranes, 948 White-naped Cranes, 4 Common Cranes, 3 Sandhill Cranes, and 1 Hooded Crane! This marks the 28th consecutive season since 1997 when we counted 10,000 cranes! *Upcoming dates for the count: Saturday, December 21, Sunday, January 12 (backup dates: Saturday, December 7, Sunday, December 22)

Sumo wrestlers from Tagonoura stable are coming to Izumi City!

Having just finished the Kyushu Grand Sumo Tournament (November 10th-24th), Tagonoura stable (whose master is Tagonoura oyakata, a native of Izumi City [active shikona: Takanotsuru]) will be holding a Izumi camp in Izumi from November 29th (Friday) to December 6th (Friday). In addition, events for elementary and junior high school students will be held on November 30th (Saturday) and December 1st (Sunday). -------------------------------------------------- Play with the sumo wrestlers! The following recreational activities will be held where you can enjoy yourself with the wrestlers from Tagonoura stable. [2024] Information on the first migratory crane arrival!!

The first wave of cranes, a seasonal feature of winter in Izumi Prefecture, has arrived! On Friday, October 18, 2024, seven Hooded Cranes, one Common Crane, and one Sandhill Crane made their first visit to the Higashi Reclamation Site in Izumi City. The Kagoshima Prefecture Crane Conservation Society confirmed that nine cranes had landed on the Higashi Reclamation Site at 3:45 pm on Friday, October 18. The first visit of cranes last year was on October 17. Last year's record number of cranes was 12,972, marking the 27th consecutive season in which 10,000 cranes were seen.
