I don’t always answer questions, especially if they’re vague, or require complex answers, or look like bad-faith posts intended to start a tedious argument. Or if I’m busy or just not in the mood. This question triggered some memories, however, so I decided to write an answer, after a long, rambling, self-indulgent preamble.
