Since Basil is very, like, devoted to his best friend he'd be distraught at the fact that he couldn't help him before it was too late so it haunts him for the rest of his life, especially if he ran away and doesn't do anything and just ghosts everyone. On top of that he if he ever reconnects with the others he might have a very strained relationship with Mari and probably resent/hate her for Sunny's behalf, cuz that's what Sunny would do right? If his sister forced him to perfect his practice for a recital he never wanted to perform in, and then killed him when he wasn't good enough for her standards?

Yeah that’s along the lines I was thinking! Another thing I settled on is the idea that Basil would definitely not help Mari cover up what happened, so his main conflict is that guilt you mentioned + not being sure what to do

It was a random thought I had so there isn’t much to it but! There’s just so many ways it could go, but personally I think that in this version of the au Basil would just get out of there, he just saw his best friend die at the hands of his sister and he just doesn’t know what to do

Like should he tell?? Should he stay quiet?? Should he do what Sunny would’ve wanted?? But Sunny’s dead so how is he supposed to know, he’s just having a really rough time. I also think he would be both terrified and resentful of Mari because of it, like the threat of her doing something if he tells is looming over him. Or he could do the there was something behind her thing here too, idk there’s a lot of ways this could go
