EU challenges China’s anti-dumping tariffs on brandy at WTO

The European Commission has formally requested consultations at the World Trade Organization (WTO) to challenge China’s provisional anti-dumping tariffs on EU brandy imports. The Commission asserts that these measures violate WTO rules, arguing that China failed to demonstrate any genuine threat to its domestic brandy industry or provide a causal link between EU imports and the alleged injury.

China initiated the investigation with insufficient evidence, according to the EU, which contests the validity of the claims and measures at this early stage. The EU sees this as a strong stance to protect its industry and prevent misuse of trade defense instruments.

This action is the initial step in WTO dispute settlement procedures
