>Not sure what private trackers are all about?
A private tracker is a torrent website that provides the same functionality as a public tracker but is invite-only. Each member share common goals: collecting, preserving and discussing media.

Currently, there is significant drama among the leadership of the most prominent anglophone torrent trackers. After the founder of Blutopia and Unit3D—popular open-source tracker software powering many younger trackers, including AsianCinema, Hawke-Uno, Aither, and initially Beyond-HD—HDVinnie, announced he would step down as a Blutopia SysOp in disgrace, the site faced substantial controversy. This announcement followed a catastrophic hardware failure that could not be resolved due to his failure to make regular backups of various databases.

In the aftermath, former Blutopia staffer Audionut took to Reddit to publicly accuse HDVinnie of various forms of misconduct. These included greedily pocketing site donations, tolerating and possibly cooperating with account sellers, and attempting to extract as much money as possible from independent trackers running Unit3D.

Nelsokege, the "interim sysop" of CinemaTiK during its transition to Unit3D, also known as the infamous "Blutopia takeover" last year, rebutted Audionut's claims on the HDB forums. He accused Audionut of being banned from Blutopia for twice threatening the lives of other staff members but did not directly address any of Audionut’s specific accusations. It appears Nelso will be the new Blutopia sysop alongside MusicalMind.
>>
>>103283067 (OP)
mickers
>>
>>103285197
MusicalMind (MM), one of the two newly appointed sysops of Blutopia and a longtime administrator of HDBits (widely regarded as the best anglophone HD tracker), reprimanded Audionut for airing his grievances publicly, although he admitted some of them were justified. Crucially, MM stated that he did not know whether HDVinnie would agree to share any of the donations he received during his tenure as Blutopia SysOp with the team managing the relaunch. In my opinion, this seems unlikely—ambiguity in such matters often signals the worst outcome. HDVinnie also suggested that the relaunched Blutopia might organize a donation drive for hardware and other expenses, which implies they are currently short on funds. Considering the previous Blutopia likely received substantial donations—especially after offering lifetime VIP memberships for a limited time shortly before the crash—this implies HDVinnie has no plans of sharing the revenue. As an aside, MM also hinted at a falling out between himself and Inclination, the current admin of PassThePopcorn and MM's successor in that role. Currently, MM is no longer staff at PTP and has not received the "Legend" rank, a title typically granted to former staff, which suggests there may be bad blood between him and Inclination.

Fellow Blutopia staffer SavageHenry also commented on the controversy, stating that Audionut's Reddit post was speculative and should not have been made public.

In summary, it seems the hardware failure at Blutopia was the catalyst for the reemergence of many dormant grievances among prominent tracker staff. For the average tracker user, these disputes only become visible during significant controversies, such as last year’s CinemaTiK incident.

I have my doubts about BLU returning soon. If Vinnie gives even a single dollar to MM to help bring BLU back, it will be only to keep himself further ingrained with the tracker community. As it is, it's not like people can shun him completely when so many trackers run on UNIT3D, and any new trackers that pop up in the future are likely to use UNIT3D instead of a Gazelle fork.

wtf, red is back and they didn't even give me shit for disappearing?
I thought we were getting sitewide fl or 100 tokens or some shit
>>
>>103286448
It's been back for like 6 hours. You really thought they were going to immediately dump tokens on everyone as soon as the site was back up?
>>
>>103286469
yeah why not
they lost the domain, not the servers, right? wouldn't you want your first impression back to be "oh they're apologizing and I can use the site for free" not "ok they said we were nice when asking them what was going on, is that it?"
>>
>>103286501
They (allegedly) did a bunch of maintenance to the server(s) while the domain was out. If that is indeed the case, they probably want to give it a few days to make sure everything's running smoothly, and let word get around about the new URL. It *is* the weekend after all, and not everyone's sitting in their goon cave 24/7 like you.
>>
>>103286348

why're you pretending to be more normal and aloof and cool when I just found out and you knew the exact amount of time since it came back up
also they could just add a week onto the normal token duration or push the deadline back later with more tokens
>>
>>103286561
yeah, they're going to hook us up with something good in the next week or two. the postscript at the end of the announcement pretty heavily implies that. I'd imagine they're going to get everything ironed out, re-enable uploads, then hook us all up with some birthday/holiday goodies
>>
>>103286448
Wait for red's birthday
>>
Put me in the news next thread
>>
Reminder that a neutral FL event will happen soon on RED, so if you are trying to get the upload for rank or make some buffer to use the site throughout the year, seed as much as you can before the event starts.

As for me I have all the music I need already on my drives, feels comfy...
>>
>>103286561
The reason I know it's been back up for around 6 hours is because I saw posts about it on PTP's forum when I got home earlier tonight. Why are you so eager to get tokens ASAP anyway? There's very little on RED that can't be downloaded elsewhere. Just wait a few days for the tokens or whatever they have planned.
>>
>>103286635
>>103286668
but they were gonna do something for that anyway. it's like when you have a birthday near christmas and someone gets you one gift for both that's not 2x the quality

Kek reality is that many people actually leave the house or have content that's not their own so aren't allowed to share. Plain and simple you mouth breathing ape. If you live in a big city there will be screening events. So will there be at festivals. So just cause they've logged it on Letterboxd doesn't mean they have a copy. Furthermore if they were asked by the uploaded to not share (which happens often, you wouldn't know we get it) they have an obligation towards that person not some random bigger who leeches content like yourself.

Using private trackers without paying

I have been using private trackers since the '10s but I have been able to use them only thanks to a seedbox. How do you survive on private trackers without paying anything? Do you have a NAS? If you don't have a NAS do you keep a PC online 24/7?

More and more ISPs put you on a CGNAT, if you are on a CGNAT you can use a VPN with port forwaring to bypass the CGNAT but one after another VPN providers are removing port forwarding and soon no VPN provider is going to offer port forwading anymore.

When seedboxes will be shut down by media companies, and it is only a matters of years before this happens, my adventure on private trackers will end because I don't have the knowledge to manage a dedicated server or a VPS from the terminal. I am only able to do basic things from the terminal like doing some basic file management. Managing a NAS or a server not only requires some terminal knowledge but there are also some logistic thing to consider like needing to live for long periods in the same house and having admin privilege access to the router.
>>
>>103292421

>one after another VPN providers are removing port forwarding and soon no VPN provider is going to offer port forwading anymore

>like needing to live for long periods in the same house

that is a problem but who doesn't have admin access to their home router?

If you want to go the homelab route there are plenty of guides nowadays on how to set everything up step by step.

Most modern solutions come with a nice control panel/UI you can access from your browser. There's barely any terminal commands needed after the initial install.

Obviously the biggest question is your budget and if you want to have a separate NAS with backups or only a server with some hard drives.

If you're away from home you can use Wireguard or Tailscale to log into your home server if you need to.

On the other hand if you're not a data hoarder then you can survive perfectly fine with just your PC/laptop and a portable hard drive.
Sure you wont be "set for life" for a few years, but you can easily get buy if you permanently seed 1-2TBs of data since most trackers have a generous bonus point system.
>>

If you have no idea how any of this works then the easiest way is probably with Unraid. It's paid, but can do everything including NAS and Docker containers.
https://unraid.net/

Or you if you want something free and basic and don't mind copy/pasting a few lines in the terminal you can install Docker on a baremetal Ubuntu server and use Portainer to manage it.

Why do music piracy sites not want their users to discuss how to obtain flacs from hifi streaming services for free? Doesn't it benefit everyone to know how to do it right, instead of all the dumbshits going and finding some suckass reddit tutorial that doesn't cover important details? Are they really that butthurt about "exploiting" higher user classes? There's plenty of requests that can be filled with deezer and such, why not teach users how to do that? ggn has plenty of ripping guides (and guess what, as a result, only unrippable shit is missing from the site)

>>
>>103301511
Just upload a full disc image. They're really easy to do, get you a bunch of BP since they're big and unpopular and you can get someone else to encode it with a request. I've done a shitload of them and through that, got a bunch of niche content to be more widely available.
>>
Does BHD still have the requirement to download 25 GB every quarter to avoid the inactivity pruning?

>>103301565
Yes, that's acceptable. And full discs are worthy in themselves, since they usually contain extras that nobody bothers to mux or encode.

>what about in situations where that isn't possible?
On these very rare occasions, you could just encode the remux and upload.
>don't full discs die frequently on it?
And DVD remuxes die everywhere because nobody wants to snatch them. It is a low-quality release. Sure, trackers will usually accept low-quality releases when no better release is available, but that's not the case with a DVD remux, as you can always encode it. And since any imbecile can make an acceptable encode of a DVD remux, it makes sense to demand it. If you can't do it, you shouldn't be uploading at all.
>>

>>
>>103302191

What are the reasons why you can get banned from a usenet indexer? On private trackers there are ratio, downloaded amount, uploaded amount, hit and runs rules, on indexeres there is nothing like that, based on what do they ban users?
>>
I'm a noob to the whole /ptg/ thing, where is the best place to get a hold of original broadcast/release quality (non ai upscaled shit because it always looks off in some way) shows and movies from the before times? I want to start collecting now so that when my kids start to grow up they have actually decent content to watch rather than the literal slop that's been put out over the last 6 or 7 years.

also, are straight dvd/br rips worth anything to the community? I was thinking about going on a buying spree when all of the redbox looters decide to dump to the market and drop prices to literal pennies on the dollar (hopefully), and since they'll all be backed up to my home server I wouldn't mind making them available if it's worth the effort.

understandable considering the massive size of a huge library of straight rips, especially br. my nas has 15tb right now but I'm planning on upping that to nearly 0.1pb with used enterprise drives in the near future, and empty space is wasted space so I'll need to fill it up somehow.

also since this obviously quite a bit more than torrenting a few porn vids I'll need a vpn if nothing else but to avoid the isp letter bullshit. I've read that airvpn is one of the last good ones because it's relatively fast and still has port forwarding, is that still the case? if so, is it worth the effort to pay with crypto (don't have any) or should I just get a prepaid visa or something?
>>
>>103302754
Private trackers are very segmented, so while it would seem to make sense to have one big tracker for both tv and movies, it's actually necessary to be both in a private tracker for old tv, and one for old movies.

Movies are generally way easier to get your hands on. Lots of people archive these, and the original media (filmreels) are often kept preserved.
It gets more difficult when looking for old TV, since the original tapes were very likely overwritten, and used again for another broadcast down the line.
It also takes up more storage to save an entire TV show, often in multiple seasons. Unfortunately TV is more likely to go missing completely.

I don't know much about Redbox, but from what I can tell, it seems like it's a rental service for DVDs.
I don't wanna come off as rude or condescending, but I'm pretty sure that anything you could rent from these, is already freely available on some of the bigger private trackers.
If you get yourself into a nice medium-/low-tier tracker, you can often request a certain movie, and the members will look on other places, to see if it's available, and then upload it to you.

What's really needed in the private tracker world, is very old TV shows, that will more often than not come from VHS tapes, recorded by people at home.

That being said, you only listed the last 6-7 years, so if you mean stuff from the 2010's, and not from like the 50's, you could probably find a lot of the stuff on Usenet.
They have scene releases from 2008 and onward.
Try to search on nzb.su or nzbking.com and see if anything comes up. You might be surprised.

>(non ai upscaled shit because it always looks off in some way)
You'll be pleased to know that AI upscales are banned on almost all private trackers. Because yes, it looks like shit.
>>
>blu torrents working again
huh?
>>
>>103303054
No idea about vpns really. ISPs send letters if they've received something from copyright lawyers, who join public swarms & collect the IPs and then send automated letters to all the ISPs involved.
One of the many advantages of private trackers is that you're pretty well shielded from copyright trolls, because to get into the better trackers they have to upload a substantial amount and break copyright laws themselves.
I've never had a letter but I also live in a country where piracy laws are weak and also not enforced or really enforceable.
>>
>>103303054
I should add the way that users who are concerned about privacy do it is not to use a vpn but a seedbox. If you're torrenting on your seedbox and then using sftp to grab what you've downloaded onto your own system then all your ISP sees is the sftp traffic. They've got no idea if that's pirated and they don't care. Copyright trolls also don't send letters to server farms in Amsterdam, and if they do they go straight in the bin.
>>
>>103303120
They started the announce tracker to figure out what content is missing that people are still seeding. Website is still down for a while.
>>
>>103303092
>first 2 paragraphs
understood, and not too big of a hassle so long as they're not too difficult/stringent to join. I understand the difficulty/rarity in finding tv tapes vs movies, I should have said highest possible quality versus original since I was thinking more along disc rip terms vs set top box recordings.

>I don't know much about Redbox, but from what I can tell, it seems like it's a rental service for DVDs.
that's exactly what it is (was), they just went under less than 6 months ago. the reason why I mentioned it is because they had tens (or hundreds more likely) of thousands of kiosks all around the country and they told the stores they are placed in that they wouldn't pick them up, so basically became a free-for-all where people would go in, break them open, and walk away with literal wheelbarrows of movies, and also even take the machines themselves. so point being prices should crash and owning physical copies of everything you want will hopefully become unbelievably cheap.

>if you mean stuff from the 2010's
I meant 80s to 10s mostly, you know typical millennial childhood to early adulthood years, but also a handful of older movies from yeah probably the 50s on.

> nzb.su or nzbking.com
I'll add em to the list.

>You'll be pleased to know that AI upscales are banned on almost all private trackers.
noice.
>>
>>103303130
fair point. however I'm not trying to get bent over, so on the rare chance a tracker gets compromised or something, I'd rather try to have at least 1 extra layer of protection.

>>103303163
yet another angle I'll have to do some research into. damn, the shit's gotten real complicated over the years.
>>
>>103302282
Well I joined via open signups at BHD too and I guess I just didn't read the rules
>>
>>103303324
>not too big of a hassle so long as they're not too difficult/stringent to join
Depends what you consider a hassle.
It took me 3 years to join PTP/BTN, which are the top tier trackers for Movies/TV.
You can't just come waltzing in, thinking your collection of retail DVDs will earn you an invite. It takes quite a bit more than that to reach the top.

There are some really good stuff in the OP, if you wanna take the journey. Should take you about 2 years if you start now.
This is probably not what you expected, but since we're on /ptg/, this should be a reality-check for you.

If you're fine with not being at the top, you can try to see if you can get yourself into CRT.
I actually think that tracker would be just what you're looking for. And they are somewhat relatively new, and considered a low/medium tier one, so it would be a good starting point.
They used to do open signups, but haven't done so in a while. You can still get recruited from other trackers, namely RED.

Otherwise there's OldToonsWorld, which is one of the newest trackers. While their focus is on cartoons, they also have a lot of movies.
Joining is very easy.

I've been rugpulled by too many jeets so i have ptsd. I think I'll wait a month to try that red domain. I'll seed that Ariana grande album you like later.
>>
>>103300735
why people keep making this type of questions?
>BHD usercount?
>PTP usercount?
its because they are waiting response of the recruitment they applied? if yes, I still dont get it
>>
CRTbros... how do we feel about the peerscraping?
>>
>>103304092
I'm waiting for some official announcement as well.
Knowing zed, it will probably never come though.
FUCK RED, AND FUCK ZED
>>
are you ready for the RED freeload?
>>
>>103304209
Could be because of that, but could also be for archival sake. I know I've looked in the archives for PTP usercount before. And the (person) asking the question probably doesn't want to get /marked/.

>>103304306
Honestly? I don't care.
They got my seedbox IP, and the stuff I'm seeding. Useless info.
They got all the content on CRT. Good for archiving it when the site goes full VHSTapes.

I thought about getting an ebook reader because I have so many fucking books from MaM but I don't read god damnit. I love that site like you wouldn't believe but I feel like a retard.
>>
>>103304339
It's on their IRC and he has posted in the PTP thread too. You really can't get more "official" than that.
>>
>>103304647
I would like to see an email land in my inbox. I feel like that would be warranted.
Regardless, zed is still a huge faggot.
>>
>>103304581
Are you the shitposter that's doing this?
>>
>>103304848
They'd get blocked if they start sending too many emails
>>
>>103302672
Users are mainly banned for inactivity on indexers.
Either that or buying invites.
>>
>>103304848
sure, post your email and I will send you one :)
>>
>>103304861
Only a seriously incompetent faggot would send out all 40k emails at once. You spread these out over a period, which is quite easy with the proper tools.
Then again, we are talking about zed, so I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't know how to do this.
