I really can’t stand cops like this. They need to be educated on how to prevent situations from escalating. Was this dude suspicious? Yes. If he shoved something in a bag, does that give probable cause? Yes. That being said, there are too many cops who want situations to escalate like this. There’s a chance this was inevitable, but maybe not. They didn’t even try. They just repeatedly tased the dude. As someone who has a PhD and does not look for trouble…I’ve never even had a speeding ticket, I’ve had two situations where I gave up my constitutional rights to prevent me from being arrested. I could have refused to comply and been arrested, and I could have sued afterwards. This type of behavior has to end. People who know me would be shocked by this. Glendale is a very rough city when it comes to policing. There a lot of drug traffic through there as well. The first time I was simply sitting on a curb in a light industrial area with my moving van parked not far away, and that was enough to attract the Sheriff's department's interest, on the basis that they get a lot of heroin and coke going through there in vans. Then there is the matter of incense in the van. That interested a security guard, who decided his best bet was to call the police. That was for sure in Glendale. They went through the whole van and didn't find anything of interest. But they asked if I was enemies of anyone, or if I was "against anyone" while I sat waiting for them to finish their search.
