NBC Digital is launching an opinion section called THINK, which will publish 2-3 premium pieces per day and 2-3 videos per week. It will be co-edited by Meredith Bennett-Smith and Megan Carpentier and they will report to Catherine Kim, executive editor of NBC News Digital.
CNN digital, CBS News digital and Fox News Digital all already have opinion sections. ABC News doesn't have a standalone section, but runs opinions and analysis from contributors on occasion.
"This won't be just another run-of-the-mill op-ed," says Nick Ascheim, SVP of digital at NBC News. "We will be convening contributors from across the political, cultural, and geographical spectrum to offer vital context on topics that impact our viewers and readers."

Time on Monday announced a new editorial platform called Time100 Voices that is dedicated to elevating perspectives from global thought leaders.
Why it matters: The new vertical marries two of Time’s most successful franchises: Time Ideas, its opinion section, and Time100, its popular events and editorial platform.
NYT Opinion section doubles in size

The New York Times has doubled its Opinion staff to over 150 people since 2017, adding new departments for audio and graphics and beefing up its copy-editing and fact-checking resources.
Why it matters: Opinion and its focus on multimedia projects are among the best retention vehicles for the Times' subscription, said Kathleen Kingsbury, opinion editor of the Times.
NBC News snags CNN video guru amid digital leadership shakeup

NBC News announced on Monday the hiring of CNN's longtime video executive Chris Berend to run its digital operation. Berend will replace Nick Ascheim, who is currently senior vice president of digital at NBC News and MSNBC. Ascheim will be taking a new role within NBCUniversal.
Details: "Over the next few weeks, Nick will be moving into a role working to improve digital performance across the NBC News Group and will continue to partner with the NBCUniversal Digital Enterprises team. More details will come on his role," the note says.
