One of the bigger booths we visited in Cannes at the TFWA 2021 show was the one by Spanish company Perfumes Y Diseño. Inside of it, one of the new brands that we had the opportunity to get to know was Scalpers. Scalpers is a Spanish fashion brand with a classic vibe and just a touch of a rebellious style. The concept is about being part of an exclusive club of people who share the same values and aesthetics. This year the brand launched its first masculine fragrance, called Scalpers The Club, composed by perfumers Ane Ayo and Clément Gavarry.
The first Scalpers fragrance wants to symbolize the tailored fashion of the House, and the bottle design is a perfect example of that. As the brand states, "We know style is not something left to chance; it is the time for tailor-made, we cannot forget the importance of the look. The shape reminds us of a man's shoulders. You want your jacket to fit perfectly. A high-quality glass tinted in a warm gray color so that the bottle evokes the characteristic tones of the SCALPERS clothing. The logo, in metallic silver, gives us the rebellious edge, almost wild... Finally, a spool of thread as a wooden stopper that contrasts with the metallic body. Without a doubt, the key to its style lies in the combination of materials."
As for the fragrance, I was very pleasantly surprised. It's one of those scents that work around familiar accords, reshuffling them and making them into a different signature that gives you some novelty and some references, shifting between them from time to time. Scalpers The Club is a woody aromatic fragrance with a fougère element to it. When you first spray it, it's the coffee note that surprises, and at this point, I am immediately taken to Black XS territory, and I mean the best parts of the Paco Rabanne blockbuster. But in this composition, the accord is more delicate and less explosive, making it more elegant. Soon enough, there is a beautifully blended sage and lavender combo that enriches the formulation and drives it to the aromatic fougère family. It's a great addition to the cocoa note (and coffee, as I smell it); it works very well. It also makes us think of the "blue fragrances" signature, such as Dior Sauvage or Bleu de Chanel.
Scalpers The Club is like an effective sum of trends, but while it's not entirely new, it is extremely enjoyable, and I like it even more when, in the middle of its development, a strong note of patchouli emerges. This is the style of patchouli that we get from, for example, Lalique Hommage a L'Homme Voyageur. A full-bodied but balanced patchouli that is more woody than earthy and connects very well to the coffee and cocoa notes of the top. It also makes the style of the fragrance classic and timeless.
Top Notes: Grapefruit, Cocoa, Sage
Middle Notes: Lavender, Tobacco, Ginger
Base Notes: Ambergris, Vetiver, Patchouli, Clandestine Woods
Scalpers The Club is already available in 100ml bottles of Eau de Parfum concentration. There is also a second fragrance being conceived by the brand in collaboration with Perfumes Y Diseño, but it's now too early to disclose any information about it.
Miguel has been a Fragrantica editor and columnist since 2013, and his work has been recognized by the Fragrance Foundation and the Perfumed Plume Awards several times, as well as by the Art and Olfaction Awards.
So, is there not even a reference on this site to the other fragrances of this brand, including the original in the silver bottle? This one referred to here was not the first, nor is it the "classic" (from 2017).
I know nothing about this brand, but it looks interesting. I like the aesthetics. Bottle evokes an old timey bootleg alcohol vibe, or a cliche pirate/assassin themed poison bottle vibe
Mother of dragons!!!! Yes, she is a stunner!!!! Now one of my top 5 Vanillas!!!!
It is indeed one of the best patchoulis I have ever smelled. It is earthy, but also sweet and warm, deep and yet very wearable. A beautifully blended fragrance that in my opinion did the Patchouli note a great homage. Highly recommend.
One of the best new scent. However review score is bellow 4 and some less than average scents have 4.5 or so.
This is literally me, bottled in a niche perfume bottle
Very Christmassy, warm and abstract at the same time. I enjoy it as it elicit these emotions of coziness and warmth. Projection may be average, but longevity is acceptable. It is definitely personal and not that offensive.
gorgeous opening the lavender and bergamot are well done but the dry down is so disappointing i enjoy it for like 5-10 minutes but after than it's just sweet honey vanilla tonka bean/coumarin that's uninteresting and uninspiring, also i get ZERO tobacco AND terrible performance i...
Over the last couple of weeks, with the coming of the fall season, I have been on a quest to find my perfect fig focused scent. I knew from previous years that Gris Charnel and the Extrait version are not my thing, so I decided to sample different brands, niche or designers, to see if I can find...
Woman writing here. This is the most delicious and the sexiest mens fragrance i have smelled so far! Its not sophisticated or too complicated, but its sweet and delicious and sexy, guys, you can't go wrong with this one! And to top it off, its cheap and perfomance is okay
I got this one in today, so I'll update later on longevity and sillage. But initial impression is great! The opening is very nice...then 1 minute later there's something there that can be very off-putting to many. Still very nice, but there's something nasty lurking underneath it...
It's a warm, smokey vanilla with next to no pistachio on me. It's not terrible, but it gets cloying after awhile.
I can’t stop smelling it, whoever says it has a pissy nuance to it, idk what you’re talking about, might be covid affecting your nose. Can’t wait to hotbox my Church with this one HAHAHAA
To me this is the sexiest man scent ever! I buy it for my boyfriend and luckily he loves it to. I can’t get enough of this
People seems to hate on this because its armaf release, such pity....
Generic "Victoria Secret body spray" type. For the price you can get much better quality perfumes.
I got this last week and I have been obsessed since. The patchouli and amber are so nice in this fragrance bringing a sense of maturity to an otherwise fruity and nostalgic scent. I layer this with Midnight Fantasy to give it extra longevity but if you have the lotion the body spray does last...
I really liked the 2-3 words description under the perfume names, couldn't we have such a short 'label' for others two?
@moonfish67 I don't need to make my position clear, son. if you struggle with basic English, then that's your problem. I mean, for starters . you think this is a concern, when it's just a friendly advice. 🙄 ...take the year off.
would you guys count body lotions into your fragrantica collection? like, putting a perfume into the collection but in reality it's just the body lotion? just curious :)
I have all three ! Lalique Soleil Lalique Soleil Vibrant and Lalique Soleil Lunar Lunar is my current favorite! But I go between them for different moods and occasions. This is delicious and mysterious and light and airy with notes that are almost marine/ozonic thanks to the pepper, heliotrope...
Really nice review!Thank you! Can't wait to try it on🫠
@Takamojo it`s not about happy perfumers here, it`s a business. Quite a bunch of perfumers went independent and what happened? do they prosper being independent? no, after some years they applied to other perfumer company, with a right to create perfumes as a side business. and many star...
Hope this pops up again- both times they were sold out in <15 mins.
Theodorapo : I concur... Obviously I don't work there anymore and who knows what REALLY goes on behind closed doors but YES YOU ARE CORRECT that the DHP formula has NOT changed since its inception... 🙂
The set looks magnificent. Jasmine, Iris, Vanilla especially sound wonderful. It's so tempting. But considering the price, I think it will just be in my dreams ... at least for now ☺️
@joyjoy thanks for the tip. I have strangely been eyeing that one up recently since the news and looking at the other perfumers work - can't find a bottle, but I'll persevere. I've also ordered a sample set from Pantomime. Here's hoping it's a nice continuation of...
@StevieBoy I'm so sick of the morality arguments about Trump. Seriously most of the founding fathers had mistresses. Nancy Reagan was his second wife. Daddy Bush was a known ass grabber. Who knows what other Republican presidents have done in the bedroom we have no idea about. When are we...
Чудесна статия. Поръчах си парфюма, след като го тествах на кожата ми и се надявм да не ме разочарова. Харесва ми, че тоалетната вода е доста трайна и добре се разгръща на пластове.
Rose geranium oil was the signature scent of my teenage bedroom, used way too much and friends would tease me a bit as was not cool but did not care. Article mentions turpentine and you get that, smells slightly synthetic rose as is very strong.
My thoughts exactly, and although I know what you meant, I'd love to see their take on "violent" blonde too lol
Thanks, enjoyed reading this. Interesting recipes, the potato dish is something would never make but will order from fine dining restaurants to local take away, maybe it's time to give it a go so article is helpful. Don't drink alcohol but putting fresh mint in pineapple juice is so...
I agree that Dior J'adore is ideal in this situation and many others.
@chuckt808 I think I got lured in the QOTA secundary comments by the Internet. I understand your point. I gave in in Googles searchmachine the in the article given quote. then it gave me two valid hits. the place in Shakespeare's Collected works which you also used, I think. Because it had...
My first EVER comment on Fragrantica! … Word vomit Alert! 🙈 😇 🤍 I envision a bright chilly sunset in the Garden of Eden, sitting inside a cedar gazebo surrounded by the warmth of ethereal flame lamps. Whilst the air feels crisp in an alpine clean, green freshness; the lamps effuse a cosy warmth...
I do. I own a handful of their fragrances and can report that they are all real.
@Redfish365 "not liking animalics = snowflakes" Why my brother?
