The idea behind the clapboard was meant to symbolize a “working” studio. This was also the reason for the roughs. We wanted the viewer to see what was behind the animation. Also, to show this was more than a studio (by just showing a cold logo) it was the shows. As time went on, it became more polished, but that was the original intent. People definitely had fun with it. You had three seconds to make an impression.
