TI Receives 2.1 Trillion Won in Subsidies and 10 Trillion Won in Tax Credits from US Semiconductor Act Texas Instruments (TI) will receive up to $1.6 billion (about 2.1 trillion won) in semiconductor subsidies from the U.S. government for the construction of three new semiconductor factories. The company anticipates an additional $6 billion to $8 billion (KRW 8.1 trillion to KRW 10.8 trillion) in tax credits and $10 million in funding for human resource development from the U.S. Treasury. TI is investing a total of $18 billion (KRW 24.3 trillion) to build three 300mm wafer fabs in Sherman, Texas, and Lehi, Utah, creating an estimated 2,000 manufacturing jobs. This investment aims to strengthen TI's competitive edge and increase internal manufacturing to over 95% by 2030. Enhancing interoperability between domestic clouds... in response to the ‘IT crisis’ The South Korean government is considering revisions to the '4th Cloud Basic Plan' to enhance interoperability among domestic cloud services in response to a recent global IT crisis, which was triggered by a Microsoft cloud failure related to an update of CrowdStrike's security software. The Ministry of Science and ICT has directed the National IT Industry Promotion Agency (NIPA) to gather industry feedback to assess the domestic cloud industry's status and develop response strategies. The agency plans to hold an industry meeting to facilitate participation. The IT crisis exposed vulnerabilities in cloud systems, particularly affecting Microsoft's Azure, AWS, and Google Cloud services. The Ministry recognizes the need for converting essential systems to multi-cloud setups to mitigate risks, focusing on interoperability through standardized practices, including application programming interface (API) design and multi-cloud management. The K-PaaS certification system is being highlighted as a means to enhance interoperability in a cost-effective manner. SEMI “Semiconductor equipment market will grow by 17% next year…both pre- and post-processes are solid” The Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI) predicts that the global semiconductor equipment market will reach $128 billion next year, showing a growth of 17%. Sales in both pre- and post-process sectors are expected to increase, with strong investment in China and demand for DRAM and high bandwidth memory (HBM) driving growth. Test equipment sales are expected to rise by 30.3% and assembly and packaging sales by 34.9% as demand for advanced semiconductors for high-performance computing increases. Deciphering them holds significant importance for unraveling the origins of civilization. Recently, an increasing number of algorithms have been proposed to assist in deciphering OBIs. However, most of these efforts have focused on the character level, thus offering limited assistance. Considering the presence of many similar components within OBI characters, associating different OBI characters with the same component will facilitate OBI decipherment. In this paper, we therefore propose a component-level OBI retrieval task, i.e., using an OBI component to retrieve all OBI characters containing this component. We accordingly collect a dataset, termed OBI component 20, containing 10,257 OBIs, which is annotated by OBI experts. Then, we propose a dual-stream attention-based model and two types of triplets based on components and characters as anchors to model the relationships between components and characters. Specifically, these two types of triplets ensure that characters containing different components are further apart, while those containing the same component are closer to the corresponding component. IBM misses Q3 sales estimates… AI·SW-based performance improvement goals IBM reported third-quarter sales of $15 billion for 2024, a 1% increase year-over-year, but slightly below the expected $15.04 billion. This disappointment led to a nearly 6% drop in the company’s stock price. The operating profit was $800 million, down significantly from $2.7 billion last year, largely due to non-cash expenses related to transferring US pension liabilities to third parties. The sales shortfall was driven by a 7% decline in the infrastructure sector, which saw $3 billion in sales. Notable decreases included a 9% drop in hybrid infrastructure, a 19% fall in IBM Z systems, and a 3% decline in distributed infrastructure. The consulting division also dipped by 0.5%, bringing in $5.2 billion, despite a 2% increase in business transformation services. The overall results highlighted ongoing challenges in both consulting and infrastructure divisions. Conversely, IBM's AI division showed significant growth, positioning itself as a strategic priority. The software division experienced a 10% increase in hybrid platforms, with Red Hat services up by 14%. Other areas like automation services and data and AI grew by 13% and 5%, respectively, although the security segment saw a slight 1% decrease. Analysts are concerned about the impact of continued weaknesses in infrastructure and consulting on IBM’s broader strategy to enhance AI and hybrid cloud solutions. CEO Arvind Krishna pointed to strong growth in software and Red Hat as evidence of positive momentum from the AI market. He noted that IBM's generative AI business surpassed $3 billion, with expectations for sustained revenue growth in the fourth quarter. #Statistics The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China 🇨🇳 recently released statistics on the software industry for the first eight months of this year. From January to August, revenue from software products amounted to 8 trillion yuan ($1.218 trillion), an increase of 11.2% compared to the same period last year. Profits totaled just over 1 trillion yuan ($145 billion), an increase of 9.8%. Software exports accounted for $36.2 billion, an increase of 3.8%. From the total figures, the following can be highlighted: • Revenue from software products amounted to 1.9115 trillion yuan ($272 billion), an increase of 8.2%, accounting for 22.4% of the industry’s total revenue. • Revenue from information technology services reached 5.779 trillion yuan ($823 billion), up by 12.5%, making up 67.6% of the industry’s total revenue. This includes revenue from cloud computing and big data services, which reached 883.4 billion yuan ($125 billion), an increase of 11.8%; revenue from integrated circuit design services amounted to 239.3 billion yuan ($34 billion), an increase of 13.8%; revenue from e-commerce services reached 780.3 billion yuan ($111 billion), up by 9.3%. • Revenue from information security products and services reached 127.3 billion yuan ($18 billion), an increase of 7.0%. • Revenue from embedded system software amounted to 731.4 billion yuan ($104 billion), an increase of 9.7%. https://lnkd.in/d7RFuRDw

I am renting Microsoft Surface Laptop 7th Edition for Business from Microsoft Korea to prepare for ARM64 & Prism test and Microsoft Surface session at aMS Seoul 2024 scheduled for October 18th. I am very satisfied with the performance and x64 emulation performance that are more powerful than before, as well as the battery life. If I had to charge it whenever I had time, now I can charge it once a day or once every two days without any problems. Of course, when performance-oriented work is done for a long time, I use a 65W USB-PD charger. The product I rented is equipped with an HDR-compatible OLED display. Thanks to the clear picture quality, I was able to distinguish colors more clearly when working on Adobe Photoshop. Of course, if you use a display calibration solution to use the optimal color for your work, the effect will be maximized. (I am using Eye-one Pro.)
