We’d like to take a moment to share our stance on AI and user data:

A number of artists and creators have made their home on Bluesky, and we hear their concerns with other platforms training on their data. We do not use any of your content to train generative AI, and have no intention of doing so.

Bluesky uses AI internally to assist in content moderation, which helps us triage posts and shield human moderators from harmful content. We also use AI in the Discover algorithmic feed to serve you posts that we think you’d like.
None of these are Gen AI systems trained on user content.

Unfortunately most people are overlooking the fact that BSky's tos doesn't have any restriction against them selling our data nor restrictions against 3rd party data collection. So while on the surface they appear anti-AI & wont do the scraping themselves, however they allow others to do it freely.

but what about 3rd party scraping.. bsky's terms has no restrictions against 3rd party data collection as far as I can see, and am i safe to assume absolutely no coding in place to detect or attempt to block 3rd party bots or data scrapers (unlike other platforms)?

On the note of AI training: Would Bluesky images also be shown in like Google images search results? Because that would form a loophole for Google to use them for AI nastiness (unless I'm mistaken)

When companies don't steal data, people like them??? No way...
Will you be taking a stand against the use of GenAI by users of your platform. By allowing them to post stolen work, you're tacitly endorsing these systems by giving them a platform from which to reach and encourage others to participate in theft.
Ppl have been stealing & selling my art since the 1990s. Last year some1 took a pattern from one of my stores & put it on Amazon as a quilt. Still had the store watermark on it! When AI trains on art it does it in a way that ppl don't see the whole thing don't know what art it is. I'd rather that.
As a photographer, I am livid with people after-the-fact updating their TOS to steal my work. As someone with a CompSci degree, I am even more upset about it because the ethical community around CS pointed out the ethical issues inherent to AI training and then people did it anyway.
I would actually appreciate it if Bluesky automatically glazed images so that they could not be used for training models. That would be a massive help to the creative community.

The issue is external scrappers but I personally poison (Nightshade/Glaze) anything I post, no matter the platform I use
Pls let us edit posts replace posted images and allow + characters per post (at least 1000),this would help us artists a lot to be more informative to customers abt our business 🙏

It's awesome to have this stance. Just one thing: Can we change "and have no intention of doing so" to "We promise we will never use any of your content to train generative AI"?
There are many "we have no intention to"s that turn into "We finally decided to." It would give artists confidence.
Need more room to share media. Maybe another 30 seconds on the videos? Some reason some gifs load others won't. For the majority of it your site rocks!
The saddest part is that some painters have gotten into trouble or have gotten fed up and erased all of their work because of the updated rules and regulations of a certain place.
We can only hope that this place will continue in a safe manner despite the changing times and rules.

Alright, now just integrate glaze preprocessing or some form of protection against scrapers for uploaded data, and you'll win over the entire artist community on this platform!
That’s a shame. Several people who work with me use generative AI to write things that are so illiterate I have to rewrite them. If you harvested my data, generative AI might get better and I wouldn’t have to rewrite so much. Alternatively, for a fee, you could harvest me and call me generative AI
This is probably another reason why I cut off social media for some time until BlueSky came along. So thank you and because of that, I can post my work by any means necessary.

We may need help, much like what Twitter has been doing with community notes helping artists in case their artwork has been stolen. Some artists have had their artwork stolen by other users and become popular, never crediting the real artists who drew.

Do you use our content to train any OTHER form of AI? It's important to be clear that you're not simply cleverly mentioning "generative AI" but that you mean you don't train user content on ANY FORM OF AI KNOWN OR UNKNOWN INCL FORMS WHICH MAY NOT YET BE INVENTED. That would be more, er, trustworthy

Are there any mechanisms in place to prevent api use to train on data? Since this is public and even allows third party clients, it seems it would be simple to be able to train on that data, given the inability to set an account to private
