I just had enough of the clickbait nonsense of the Scotty Kilmer Youtube channel. Sure, he seems to like Toyotas but most of the titles are just clickbait. He pretty much states Toyotas are good and everything else is junk.
Unsubscribed, bye bye.

Haha. I think the clickbait is what drives people away from that channel. Most of his older videos aren’t bad like the ones from 6-10 years ago. Some might be even older now since he started YouTube. A lot of my customers watch him and come in wanting exactly what he said the problem was done, sometimes it is the problem and sometimes not. At least he likes Ford better than Chevy though I will give him that.

The channel appeals to people who probably aren't into cars or have the same views about cars, and only view them as depreciating assets that are needed for transportation to work and back, so the information he spews appeals to them. Most car enthusiasts on the web despise him, as his popularity and appeal is akin to a former president.

The guys on my Honda forum had suggested a couple of his videos to me. I don't like the tone of his voice, and yeah, he craps on way too many manufacturers for no reason. He sh@t all over one of Honda's engines that has so far been absolutely fantastic according to actual owners.

I get the vibe he's paid for promotion. And yes, he is totally clickbait. I sat through like 10 minutes of one of his videos that had very little to do with the title. There's many more actual mechanics who actually show you how to do things with actual tools, and without crapping on other cars.

I've met Scotty Kilmer. He's a down to earth person for the most part. His YouTube channel is his business and as a large YouTube channel he knows what it takes to stay relevant. He actually doesn't love new Toyota's that much. They're full of things he hates, like plastic parts, push start, more things that can fail, and not as serviceable as older Toyotas, but he would take a new Toyota any day over a German car. He also likes Honda's just as much. But remember, he's running a YouTube channel that earns him a lot of money every day, so long as he sucks up to the stupid YouTube algorithms. Otherwise he wouldn't be half as annoying.

I've seen some few videos that made me wanna scream at the screen like "If you're replacing the strut then WTF are you using old torn up dust boot. You're not replacing in pairs?!?!".

It's like that one other YouTuber (can't remember the username. But he claims to be former MDT); where I caught him in BS statement saying Toyota coolant is the World's best. When anyone behind the screens know Toyota coolant is way too watered down that causes early water pump issues.

I hate to admit to this but out of all the YouTubers; Faye Hadley is the only one I've seen done things the right professional way if you watched a good reliable technician. I think that's way Toyota awarded her with that Supra.

Wait, Toyota Coolant causes water pump failure?

He might do the bolded part on one video, while another video of his is titled "The end of Toyota reliability". One video says don't get a gen 8 Camry because it has an 8 speed tranny, and in another video he's praising the 8 speed.
I watched a few for the curiosity, and has some interesting technical tidbits, but I have found that frequently got the reasonings behind the designs wrong. But yeah, from first time I saw one of the thumbnail/titles? Knew it was all clickbait.

I found the constant circular commentation, choppy editing and hand waving made it unwatchable though!
I also watched a few out of curiosity. Although I disliked the clickbait and the circular comments, I found his style mildly entertaining, from a comedic aspect. His animated hand waving didn't bother me. He did however trash my beloved Echo in one of his videos, I think claiming it was one of the 5 worst cars, when in fact the opposite is true, IMHO. ;) :
He said "Oh sure, they're reliable, but they're made cheap" while extolling the virtues of buying inexpensive cars in other videos. (?)

They all tell you how to do the same thing differently, talk for hours 99.9% having nothing to do with the subject (makes some of my long winded posts seem really short) don't show you proper views and they even bash each other. Saw a clip of South Main Auto guy doing his expert tutorial on restoring headlights and he finishes it with bashing Scotty because Scotty says not to clear coat your headlights and the guy at South main does. He talks for 10 minutes about it and never actually shows it.

I used to watch his video before when I was a car-noob and then I realized I'm not gaining any repair knowledge from the guy, there are lots of forums and youtube videos that teach you how to diy in detail. Just look at how Scotty replace a clutch, it looks very simple when in reality it's not. As I gained more knowledge about cars, I don't take his advice... now I own bmws, mercedes, volvo, jaguar and cadillac.. also owned toyota hybrids (camry and prius) and lexus. The guy is more on youtube content right now, can't do any repairs.. and the worst he tend not to keep track of his content.. he'll say volvos are crap and then the next year you got a video why volvos are reliable.. same thing with toyota.. the guy wants you to buy a car that he can fix and not try/experience what is it drive better cars.. life is too short to drive a boring celica..

Some of his newer videos on the history of a band of auto or a particular part of an automobile are interesting. He is not badmouthing other brands, etc as in older videos. They are a more professional construct presentation.
He is making millions$$$ doing the click bait routine. So he has cashed that check and could care less.

Someone mentioned other channels like the car care nut and Toyota maintenance, both are informative channels. The car care nut has more in depth experiences and information. And he calls it way he sees it, which make it more legit.
The savage geese channel does some good reviews on vehicles, too. All brands and are very informative..if you have not watch any of them.

Obviously, he's riding out his videos, because plenty of people will watch and click. He paid some video production guys to make those 'pro' videos and use clips from the manufacturers. Some of them are OK, others are boring.

Toyota Maintenance and Car Care Nut are more of DIY that is highly relevant to Toyota owners and people on this site, so they're not going to get the attention that Scotty, Chrisfix and ETCG get, though of course, these guys are vets in the YT world, while these other guys started later.

Mark and Jack on SG are more critical of cars, perhaps certain manufacturers won't send their vehicles to them to drive but he seems to get almost every car that all the others get.

That's a possibility. Problem is listening to him for even 5 minutes gets repetitive and annoying. And how could he actually fix anything in that mess. You want to pay a guy that doesn't even have a garage to work in?
Sure he has a scanner or two. And he's just more popular because he makes a lot of noise to distract he doesn't do anything. Only guy that says he knows everything and all the others are idiots.

Many subscribe to his channel itching to see what he's going to come up with next.

his approach is more of a parts cannon type mechanic, the one that usually works in the dealership. Replace a part without proper diagnostics because it's common to fail. If that doesn't do a thing then go to the next possible part. You could tell a guy if he's a good mechanic because of a clean/orderly shop.
