Jordan Strudwick, 27, allegedly punched the woman in the head and dragged her around by the hair during the incident, which allegedly occurred about 8pm on Friday.
Court documents said Strudwick was at home drinking alcohol when he and the woman got into an argument about Strudwick's alleged infidelity.
The woman left the unit but returned a short time later at Strudwick's request so they could "sort things out".
However, the couple again began to argue, at which time Strudwick called his mother while the victim was in earshot and allegedly told her, "come pick me up tonight because I don't want to go to jail tonight. We've just had a massive fight and if I stay here I will stab her".
Strudwick then allegedly pushed the woman on to the bed, jumped on top of her and punched her in the head.
The woman managed to break free, however Strudwick allegedly threw a small speaker at her, hitting her in the right arm and drawing blood.
He then allegedly dragged the woman around by her hair.
Meanwhile, neighbours phoned police, but Strudwick had already fled by the time they arrived.
He was arrested at an address in Kanahooka on Saturday morning, taken to Wollongong Police Station and charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and common assault.
In Wollongong bail court on Sunday, police prosecutor Sergeant Shannon Ryan opposed bail, saying Strudwick was a repeat domestic violence offender.
Strudwick was granted bail on the condition that he live at a house in West Wollongong, report to police three times a week, not drink or take drugs and comply with the AVO.
He is also banned from entering the suburb of Thirroul.
The matter was adjourned to February 6.
