When Saul Krugman began his pediatric infectious disease career in 1946 and at the late age of 35, he likely had no idea he would be responsible for three generations of pediatricians and countless discoveries that helped vanquish a multitude of infectious diseases. That he achieved as much as he did is a tribute to his perseverance and compulsiveness. That we are able to write anything about our father and grandfather is a tribute to the compulsiveness of his wife Sylvia, who kept everything (we mean everything) that Saul wrote, read, or was cited in over the 55 years of their marriage.
