TOKYO -- Japanese Defense Minister Gen Nakatani stepped on board a South Korean naval vessel on Thursday, becoming the first Japanese defense chief to do so.

Nakatani boarded the Marado, an amphibious assault ship docked at the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force base in Yokosuka, south of Tokyo.
