hi im a trans man who has physically transitioned but not legally. in the wake of trumps election and the threat his policies and cabinet pose to transgender people in the US, i desperately need to have my name and gender marker legally changed so that i can pass completely as male and avoid anti-trans violence that’s surely going to surge in the coming months or years. however, in the state i live in, this can cost up to 300 dollars. while i can cover some of this cost myself, i can’t afford the initial filing fee and need a new copy of my birth certificate as well, which will cost in total around 200 dollars (180 for the filing fee, 20~ ish for the birth certificate copy request). i’m fairly certain my aunt would be willing to drive me to the courthouse and any other location i need to go to in order to have my name and gender marker officially changed, so i doubt i’ll need transportation, but i feel like i urgently need my name and gender marker legally changed as the anti-trans legislation noose tightens. i’m very afraid of being outed. i have looked into waivers for low income individuals and they are not available in my state.

any help you can offer, including just sharing links, would be a huge help. thank you very much.

paypal (please ignore my dead name… lol) / cashapp.

turns out i also need another 125 dollars for a legally required publication fee. jesus christ. my goal for help is 200, i think i can spare 100 myself without starving once i get paid again.

30/200. thank you.

180/200!! thank you all so so much

It might be something different since you’re representing yourself, you might have to file a motion or something. If that’s the case, you should be able to find an outline online. You could also look into local nonprofits who can represent you for free. They might be able to help you avoid the publication too

  11. kuroko99 said: you can choose to waive the publication entirely too, just another short form
  12. kuroko99 said: no clue what state you’re in but i suggest looking into waiving both the pub fee and changes with a court order. affidavit of indigency is what it’s called. if you can’t afford it, that’s grounds to waive all fees. you’ll be at civ court anyway for this so please look it up for your state
