🎙️I started my day in the gym listening to this wonderful podcast by IDP Education Ltd #idprealtalk hosted by the wonderful Prachi Tyagi and lovely Alexis Ngunyi. There are 3 reasons why I suggest anyone (especially students) to listen to podcasts: 1. It improves your focus - when you are only listening and not watching something visually vivid (like reels which last 10-20 seconds) 2. Helps you get a new perspective on things that might be useful to you. Like public speaking or exploring your city, most of us ignore this as 'Not important Not urgent' 3. Builds network - if you decide to make it into a story/post like this, tagging the host and the speaker 😎🎙️ Thanks for this podcast which covers topics like: • Navigating through uni life • Coping up with job expectations and aligning yourself to it • Importance of communication and public speaking • Showing up to workshop and network events • Being comfortable being yourself (Be YOU. 🌍 Applications now open! The Academy’s Mobility Grants assist Australian early- and mid-career researchers seeking to collaborate with leading European science and technology organisations in 2025. Eligible applicants can receive up to A$7000 for international travel and living expenses, with travel occurring between 1 January and 31 December 2025. The grants are supported by the Bede Morris and Rod Rickards memorial funds, allowing researchers to travel to France or Europe for 14-28 days. The Bede Morris fund, honouring a distinguished medical scientist, has aided Australian researchers since 1990, while the Rod Rickards Fellowships, named after a prominent chemist, support projects in chemistry or biology. What applicants need to know: ✅ Applicants must be Australian citizens or visa holders, residing in Australia, and employed as scientists with eligible research organisations. ✅ They should have a PhD awarded within the last 15 years, with extensions possible for career interruptions. ✅ Applications require a CV, PhD copy, letters of support and invitation, and a referee report. ✅ Proposals are evaluated based on scientific merit, the applicant’s achievements, the host’s research capacity, and the project’s potential impact on Australian science. ✅ Due 9 am (AEST) 9 September 2024. A key point I took away for anyone wanting to use economic framing*, is that economic productivity is different to tax revenue: Economic productivity is about what citizens produce and earn. Tax revenue is a transaction which can come from many different sources. You cannot be economically productive if you have terminal cancer, disabling heart disease or are dead. Hence why policies that keep people healthy tend to be good for the economy. And if you want the figures to back that up, then here they are. *(separate debate to be had on utility of that way of viewing the world, when we can't eat, drink or breathe money, nor does it shelter or keep us alive when the temperature is higher than the human body can sustain)

Insightful viewpoint about how the higher education sector needs to change to support lifelong learning - and bridge knowledge and skills for the needs of the nation's economic prosperity and the cascading (positive) impacts that this can represent. Not that this is the only role for universities - but it is an important one, particularly in our times of cost of living crisis and the continuing workplace changes due to issues such as global (digital transformation) or wicked problems (eg climate emergency, biodiversity loss). This viewpoint is provided by Alec Cameron, VC RMIT Unversity- as head of a large dual-sector university provider, it is no wonder he is thinking how to blur the boundaries between vocational education and universities. He also links these thoughts to the inspirational strategic directions and targets that are embedded in the Universities Accord's Final Report released earlier this year.

An overview of teaching intensification at the uni of Sydney, and why we need to look at management and funding, not an "addiction" to international student fees, if we want to understand and address the problems in tertiary education. "Translingual Identity of Postgraduate International Students in Australia" The findings in this chapter portray how translingual identity of international students is characterized by the continuous negotiation between the heritage attachments and new reality in terms of language and culture, and how in their process of adaptation, they still employ strategies and coping mechanisms that entail familiarity to preserve their well-being which is often disrupted with their migration. Here’s the recent interview I did for LMD - Media Services (Private) Limited International Magazine for their first anniversary edition. Reflecting on the questions, I realized just how much my life has changed over the past three years. I used to be a street fighter, hustling in my venture with a fierce determination to bring about economic prosperity. But as I embraced motherhood and immersed myself in philosophy, my worldview began to shift profoundly. These changes have opened my heart in ways I never imagined, and my readings on philosophy have deepened my understanding of the world. This journey has made me more empathetic, and I now see the urgent need for compassionate actions. I am committed to turning my research, readings, and learnings into real, meaningful actions that can make a difference. Along the way, I have also come to deeply respect and value our rich cultural heritage, which grounds and guides my efforts. I’m a storyteller and a researcher, I aim to use my skills to engage and inspire audiences on critical topics. I am excited to share my new initiatives, Dvolve, where I will continue this journey of empathy and action.
