Goes Green 2008+, Proceedings, 857-862, 2008   Comment from the awardees: In June, we received the prestigious Impact Award Academia at Electronics Goes Green 2024+ in Germany. Electronics Goes Green is organized by Fraunhofer IZM (Fraunhofer Institute for Reliability and Microintegration) and held every four years in Berlin, Germany. The conference brings together academia, policy makers and industry players to promote sustainability in the electronics and ICT industries. The conference has established the Impact Award, in which an individual from academia, policy, and industry is selected from presenters at past conferences for their outstanding contributions, including high citation rates. (Dr. Terazono) I had attended the conference consecutively from 2008 to this year (including the online conference in 2020), and received the Impact Award Academia for the presentation "E-waste Occurrence and Material Flow in Japan and Asia," which I gave with Dr. Aya Yoshida in 2008. The award was unexpected, but the awarder's speech indicated the importance and pioneering nature of our work and the impact of presenting our highly cited work at the conference. I am sincerely grateful to my colleagues in Asia with whom I worked with, as I feel that this impact was due to the papers described with them and published in the Journal of Material Cycles and Waste Management at that time. E-waste research has taken us from analysis of material flows and pollution to batteries (the subject of my presentation this year), plastics, product design, and circular economy. We at EY Able Japan recently celebrated a milestone by “stepping out” of EY. It was a memorable day where we had the privilege to co-host an "ERG Networking Meeting" with members of Medtronic Japan's ERG named "ABLED." As a relatively new team facing challenges, it was truly exciting to learn about the impactful initiatives undertaken by ABLED.   At Medtronic, there are many people with disabilities actively engaging in the mainstream of business as well as involved in the ERG. In fact, some of the participants in our call were those who require support, but I didn’t realize about this until ABLED members practiced reasonable accommodations in a smooth and elegant way. In fact, one of the participants expressed “feeling supported” by those around them, maintaining an appropriate distance while still providing a sense of security. This emphasizes the positive and nurturing environment fostered within their company.   I was also impressed by the social contribution activities which ABLED is engaged in through ERG transmission, especially the way of skillfully involving Medtronic employees. At EY Able Japan, there is an ongoing discussion regarding the "boundary between ERG” and “internal DE&I organization." Moving the company forward through ERG communication is key to achieving the collective impact we aim for. We would like to try it, too.   It was insightful to hear from our pioneers of ERG about their journey and their strategies. Ideas such as surveying activities to listen to the voice of employees and promoting the ERG at internal events are inspiring and helped us formalize our ideas on what more we can do at EY Japan. At the same time, I realized what we should prioritize – which is to increase participation among our employee base and to establish a solid core team structure to drive activities.   Excited for the fiscal year ahead to implement new strategies and activities. Here's what your corporate website in Japan NEEDS to show (#2):   While you likely have a good idea of what content to include on your website, there might be a more effective way to present it for the Japanese market. In Japan, a company's website needs to first and foremost convey trustworthiness.   In Japan, a company's history is often seen as a key indicator of its trustworthiness. This is partly because Japan has a long history of businesses being passed down through generations, with some companies operating for centuries. Other thing is that it is important to clearly indicate the company's existence and ensure uninterrupted communication.   Example of company’s corporate profile page: https://lnkd.in/gF9C8AWZ   As you know Japanese people are fanatical about details and accuracy. Company’s address, phone number and e-mail address with people names, CEO and stuff are basic information required. With pictures of building your office and employees would better.   Japan has a long history of businesses being passed down through generations might be because of details and accuracy. In Japan, the train on the Yamanote Line, located in the center of the route map, travels approximately 18 laps and 6,34 kilometers in 1 day with an accuracy of within 15 seconds.   Since my company only 17 years old and can not have 1000 years history, we show where and ensuring uninterrupted communication for trustworthiness on our website.    Japan has 376 million business entities, but some studies suggest that a significant portion about 80% may not survive past the first few years and only 2% of them exists their business over 10 years.

This is an Japanese article of my town, Tateyama town, Toyama prefecture, Japanese countryside. I want to use web3 technologies for financing the restoration of the flood. About a year ago, torrential rain hit my town. The water level of the local dam surged, and the dam discharged the water to the downstream. Then, levee of the downstream river was broken by the sudden water discharge, and flooded in the mountainous area of my town. In Japan, continuous maintenance work by human is necessary to maintain the health of woods. If woods were healthy, they could have stored the water when torrential rain hit and could have prevented the flood, I think. However, it is difficult to make profit out of forestry business in Japan. So, many woods are not maintained well. Woods absorb CO2. Maintaining the health of woods is important for tackling the climate change. About 70 percent of Japanese land is woods. https://lnkd.in/ghWb5QfP

💡 JP Vending Machines 🤖 - AI DX Opportunities for Small Businesses 📈 I have always been a big fan of vending machines in Japan as they have always been better than those in all other countries...especially the US 😁 Suntory has been using AI to optimize their vending machine business, analyzing data in real-time to predict demand, manage stock, and adjust product offerings. This is a great example of how smaller local businesses can benefit from similar AI-driven strategies. Seeing a large corporation utilize DX to potentially help support local businesses is a great way to spearhead benefits on a larger scale.
