Blue Fox Run, a sprawling 250-acre golf course in Avon, has sold for $5.78 million, the town clerk's office confirmed.
The 27-hole golf course, at 65 Nod Road, was put up for sale this summer via auction. The auction, which had a starting bid of $1.75 million, took place on Sept. 26.
The sale was recorded in land records on Monday. The buyer was Town Fox LLC, which is controlled by Michael A. Bozzuto, chairman, president and CEO Cheshire-based wholesale food distributor Bozzuto's Inc.
The Hometown Foundation Inc., the nonprofit charitable arm of Bozzuto's Inc., is also listed as principal of the buying LLC.
It wasn't immediately clear what the buyer intends to do with the property. An email sent to a lawyer involved in the deal wasn’t immediately returned.
Colliers was the listing agent.
In addition to the golf course, the property contains two structures. One is a 6,000-square-foot clubhouse with offices, a bar and grille, and a golf shop.
The second building, which is 5,872 square feet, is a maintenance barn with storage for golf carts and operations equipment.
Blue Fox Run opened in the early 1970s and was owned by Blue Fox Run Golf LLC, which is controlled by LWF Holdings Inc., whose principal is Lisa Wilson-Foley, a prominent entrepreneur.
Hiram Peck, Avon’s director of planning and community development, said the town has not received any concrete information about the buyer’s plans for the property.
He noted the property is zoned as agricultural land, and the golf course is permitted by special exception.
“The property is environmentally sensitive as it contains wetlands and has the Farmington River flowing through it,” Hiram said. “Any future use will have to take these facts into account.”
