Pluspetrol Perú making headway with LPG expansion project

Pluspetrol Perú expects to double dispatch capacity of LPG cistern trucks at its Pisco plant in 2024, according to Pablo Campana, the company’s commercial manager of large clients.

Trucks dispatched by the plant currently cover 40% of the country’s LPG demand and the project will increase coverage to nearly 70%, Campana told a local energy event.

The expansion aims to ease congestion and help guarantee supply by increasing the staging area for trucks and reduce dependence on maritime dispatch which is impacted by weather.

Work to date includes the recent increase in the number of truck spots and access to the plant.

The coastal fractionation facility is 250km south of Lima and receives natural gas liquids from the Malvinas separation plant which is fed by Camisea.

Information from the energy and mines ministry shows that LPG was the second highest fuel sold in August with 1.9Mb (million barrels) or nearly 21% of fuel sold in the month, while diesel was the principal fuel with 4.7Mb and the balance from gasoline and other fuels.

BNamericas previously reported that Pluspetrol was developing a project at Pisco to implement a system to transfer refrigerated propane and butane to pressurized product to ensure a minimum inventory of LPG for ground dispatch.
