This is Keyakizaka46 's debut single and first single, released on April 6, 2016 .

This is the debut single of Keyakizaka46, produced by Yasushi Akimoto and launched as the second part of the Sakamichi series operated by Sony Music . All Keyakizaka46 members except Neru Nagahama of Hiragana Keyaki were selected as starters, and the center was Yurina Hirate, who was born in 2001 and was the youngest member at the time at 14 years old . It was used as a TV commercial song for Fashion Rental Mechakari (メチャカリ), and part of the song was released through the commercial before the release date.

Recorded 191,203 copies on the Oricon Daily Chart the day before the release date. It broke the first week sales record of Nogizaka46's debut single, Guru Guru Curten, of the same series, and achieved first place by surpassing 260,000 copies in Initial Chodong sales on the Oricon Weekly Chart released on April 18th . Produced by the same producer, Yasushi Akimoto, HKT48 breaks the previous record for first-week sales of a debut single by a female artist. It also topped the monthly charts released later in sales for the same month.
After its release, the sound source also recorded good rankings and achieved record-breaking results, and a new group achieved a music station appearance with their debut single.
This is the first record achieved by a female idol group produced by Yasushi Akimoto since 2006 .

In 2023, Billboard Japan ranked 39th among all-time TOP50 announced in commemoration of the 15th anniversary of the JAPAN HOT 100. #

The title song, Silent Majority, is a song with a strong message, and the narrator talks about moving toward his dream toward the silent majority.
The choreography was done by famous choreographer TAKAHIRO, and the music video was redeveloped by Tokyu. It was filmed at the construction site of Shibuya Station, and it contains the meaning of taking a video that can only be captured now.

Although it is a song with a strong message, it is not Yasushi Akimoto's own message, nor was it created with the group's concept set before the audition. According to Yasushi Akimoto's comment from the Kanjam Complete Show broadcast on March 20, 2022 , at the time of Keyakizaka46's first-generation audition, the members were dark, blunt, and unsmiling, saying, 'These kids are wary of adults.' It is said that he wrote the lyrics because he felt like he was rebelling against adults.
