Peoria Public Schools superintendent gets contract extension and a raise

Leslie Renken, Journal Star
1 min read

PEORIA – When the contract for Peoria Public Schools Superintendent Sharon Desmoulin-Kherat was renewed for four more years at a board meeting this month, it included a raise.

Desmoulin-Kherat’s base salary is $268,636.43, according to board attorney Stanley Einsenhammer. The superintendent will receive a 5.8% raise in the first year and just under 4% in each of the last three years.

Renewal of Desmoulin-Kherat’s contract was passed without discussion at the Nov. 14 board meeting, though two board members, Anni Reinking and Chase Klaus, voted against it.

According to the PPS website, Desmoulin-Kherat's "base salary" for the 2021-22 school year was $289,840.66. Since the salary report on the district website is required to include contributions from the Teachers Retirement System pension program and the Teacher Health Insurance Security fund, the base salary reported there is higher, said Haleemah Na'Allah, the PPS director of public relations.

The figure reported by Einsenhammer does not include the pension and health insurance benefits.

Desmoulin-Kherat’s salary is higher than the salaries of other superintendents in smaller school districts in the Peoria area. In 2020, Morton Schools Superintendent Jeff Hill earned a base salary of $185,207, while Scott Dearman, superintendent for Dunlap Schools, earned a base salary of $190,550, according to the Illinois Public Salaries Database.

Actor Harrison Ford has revealed his pick for president just days away from the 2024 election.

The Indiana Jones actor took the opportunity to speak out despite “never really want[ing] to talk about it very much,” and urged voters to “move forward” with Kamala Harris.

“When dozens of former members of the Trump administration are sounding alarms saying, ‘for God’s sake, don’t do this again,’ you have to pay attention,” Ford said in the dramatic black-and-white clip.

“They’re telling us something important. These aren’t soft people. They’re governors, generals, standing up against the leader of the party they spent their lives advocating for.”

The 82-year-old continued: “For many of them, this will be the first time they’ve ever voted for someone who doesn’t have an R next to their name. Because they know this really matters.”

Ford then compared Harris directly with Trump. “Kamala Harris will protect your right to disagree with her about policies or ideas, and then, as we have done for centuries, we’ll debate them, we’ll work on them together, and we’ll move forward. The other guy – he demands unquestioning loyalty. Says he wants revenge.”

The actor, in his typically gruff and serious tone, finished his endorsement by saying: “I’m Harrison Ford. I’ve got one vote, same as anyone else. And I’m going to use it to move forward. I’m going to vote for Kamala Harris.”

In a second video, Ford explained that he did not believe Harris and running mate Tim Walz were “perfect,” but they believe in “the rule of law” and “in science.”

“They believe that when you govern, you do so for all Americans. They believe that we are in this together. These are ideas I believe in,” Ford added.

He said that Trump has spent four years “embracing tyrants around the world” and turning the country against one another.

“That’s not who we are. We don’t need to make America great again. We are great. All we need is to work together again. All we need is a president who works for all of us.”

Ford is the latest star to endorse Harris, following Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Jennifer Lopez and Eminem. Trump, meanwhile, has been endorsed by the likes of Elon Musk, Russell Brand and Mel Gibson.

In 2020 the actor endorsed Joe Biden in the final days of the campaign. It was the first time he publicly endorsed a candidate, according to People.

Donald Trump appeared to emulate performing a ‘sex act’ on a microphone stand during a campaign rally after experiencing technical difficulties.

Viewers were stunned at the former president’s apparent gesture during his Milwaukee rally on Friday night in Wisconsin.

Trump was complaining about the microphone and told the crowd the stand was too low. “I came in today, I said, and, you know, this is after four of these things I’ve been in all fairness. I mean, I’m a human being, right? I come in, and here’s the problem…”

He grabbed the microphone stand and appeared to simulate fellating the microphone stand. “Way too low,” he said in between the gestures.

A short clip of the bizarre moment started circulating on social media.

The View’s Anna Navarro was among the shocked viewers. “Ask yourself: what would happen if Kamala Harris did this?” she said in a post on X. “Yes. You saw right. This is Trump on stage at a rally, pretending to perform a sex-act on a microphone.

“This is not normal. Trump is disgusting, unhinged and unfit to represent the United States. Vote him out.”

Earlier in the rally Trump, in frustration, ripped the microphone from the podium to hold it closer to his mouth.

“I think this mic stinks,” Trump said. “And then we don’t pay the contractor. I say don’t pay the contractor then they write a story, Trump doesn’t pay his bills, he’s a bad guy.”

At one point, as the problems appeared to continue, the former president said: “You’ve gotta be kidding. Do you want to see me knock the hell out of people backstage?”

The crowd cheered and Trump continued: “I don’t mind if they want to come up a little forward or something but it’s a pretty stupid situation, but that’s OK.”

“I get so angry, I’m up here seething. I’m seething, I’m working my ass off with this stupid mic,” he carried on.

“I’m blowing out my left arm. Now I’m going to blow out my right arm, and I’m blowing out my damn throat too, because of these stupid people.”

In the statement, Aldrin praises Trump on his space policy: "Over the years, I have seen our government's approach to space wax and wane, a fluctuating dynamic that has disappointed me from time to time. And now for the person who took back their endorsement...

1. That would be reggaeton star Nicky Jam.

If you remember, Nicky Jam's Trump endorsement was off to a rocky start when Trump said "she" was "so hot."

Well, since the Puerto Rico joke fiasco, Nicky went on IG and revoked his endorsement.

The AP reports Nicky said in Spanish, "The reason why I supported Donald Trump was because I thought he was the best for the economy in the United States, where many Latinos live, many of us Latinos live, myself included, many immigrants who are suffering because of the economy and him, being a businessman, I thought it was the best move."

"Never in my life did I think that a month later a comedian was going to come to criticize my country and speak badly of my country and therefore, I renounce any support for Donald Trump, and I sidestep any political situation. Respect Puerto Rico, Nicky Jam."
