Do you hire developers based on technical skills alone? It could be costing you.  Many companies make this mistake, believing that if a developer can code well, they’ll automatically thrive in the team. But this is not always the case. I have a client in Krakow who specifically hires Java Engineers who can have a “normal conversation" about software, clean code practices, and general life. But most importantly someone he can get along with. If they can do that, he’s usually ready to hire them. However, if they don’t fit culturally, it doesn’t matter if they’ve coded at Google, have an Oxbridge education, or have a long list of technical achievements. They won’t get the job. This is also not unique. According to Leaders.com, approximately 80% of employers take personality into account when making hiring decisions. Also research from Harvard Business Review found that 40-60% of hiring managers admit to hiring candidates who resemble them in terms of background, values, or attitudes. None of this mentions their skills. The ability to mesh with the team and collaborate is non-negotiable. Some people picture developers as introverted hackers, coding away in dark rooms, surrounded by empty energy drink cans. The stereotype that developers don’t need social skills in my opinion, comes from how they’re portrayed in Hollywood (Die Hard 4 was what came to mind when writing this). In reality, developers are part of cross-functional teams. They interact with product managers, designers, and other stakeholders daily. They need to explain complex ideas, collaborate on solutions, and contribute to the team’s overall culture. A developer who can’t work well with others or communicate effectively can disrupt workflows, no matter how technically gifted they are. It’s like having the most advanced software that no one knows how to use. What’s the point? The best hires are those who fit into your culture and can contribute to the team dynamic - not just those who can write the cleanest code. So if you’re only hiring based on technical skills, you might be missing out on your most valuable assets: collaboration, communication, and cultural fit. Skills get you in the door, but culture fit keeps you there. The IT Department has a bad reputation for good. Okay, I tried to catch you with that Headline. But honestly, in some Companies, the IT Department is seen as a needed evil. In other Companies, the IT Department has a good standing, but when some Projects are not going well, the reputation decreases rapidly, and rebuilding that takes a lot of effort and time. IT Process Automation can speed that up when done wrong because, as I said in a previous Post, a bad process su****, even when automated, but faster. So bad IT Process Automation can rapidly decrease the reputation of your IT Department. But the good news is, when done correctly, it can help to increase your reputation and strengthen the standing of your IT Department. So imagine your end user can request any IT Equipment or Access Permissions and receive a result nearly immediately instead of waiting days until a Ticket proceeds. Imagine your IT Helpdesk can execute administrative tasks through a Self-Service Portal instead of having a long Onboarding Phase to learn how to handle all the different Infrastructure Systems. Think about how your IT staff can request a new VM and get it within minutes instead of waiting for the Infrastructure Team to create a VM for them. Last but not least, with a better reputation, getting a higher budget is possible. We are missing the context of the impact on the long-term development of company culture. In the long term, you must focus on several areas to ensure that your company relies on process and internal knowledge, not particular team members. You have to fight with knowledge silos, encouraging exchanging knowledge between projects, and finding the right time to do that between project working hours isn't a simple thing. Remote work can cause anxiety and make people lack a sense of belonging to the company. Face-to-face interactions have a significant impact on teamwork. They can make it easier to read feelings when you are with someone in a meeting, more accessible than when speaking to them on a phone or video call. This is a significant difference in building trust and a sense of belonging among employees.

Work models, like everything else, evolve. 🌍 In my opinion as a society, we’ve finally matured into remote and hybrid work, but it seems that many companies don’t share this perspective. 🤔 Remote work can be incredibly productive. Personally, I started a company that I managed from a distance, and it grew to a significant size. I met the CEO in person only after three months! 😲 The truth is, I was fortunate to find the right people - professionals I could truly trust. 🤝 And while I understand that different industries have different needs, and not every sector can implement this system with the same level of success, I would still encourage companies to create environments where we trust our employees, even when we don’t see them physically. 👀 In doing so, we can all benefit. 🚀

Hi No Code Gang: Gamification and Leadership, First Attempts About two months ago, I decided to build a close-knit in-house team. Previously I: - Hired contractors who came and went. - Delegated team communication to the project manager. - Was detached from project details and company community. Team members only knew each other within their projects. Casual calls had low attendance. I wanted to bond with everyone I worked with, grow together, vibe, exchange memes, and more. Plus, I wanted a team to eventually switch to our own products after custom development. Honestly, I used to see people as functions. Looking back, that approach makes me sick. In the last two months, everything has changed: 1) HR It started with HR. Besides asking about experience and values, I asked: who would I be friends with? Who would I want to spend every day with? 2) Hi No Code Game With my friend and mentor, Volya, we tested the idea of turning work processes into game mechanics: - Work would be more fun. - Challenges would seem easier, like a "Level 10 boss" is easier than an angry client. - Achievements in the game are more exciting than hitting KPIs. - The game environment is immersive, reducing distractions. But we thought it was too early and needed basic processes first. However, I couldn’t wait, bursting with ideas. Here’s what we’ve implemented so far: 1. Professional Names:   - Female Developer: DEV Girl   - Male Developer: DEV Boy   - Female Project Manager: PROD girl   - Business Development Male: BIZboy   - Designer Male: UX boy   Grades like in rap lol:   - LIL - Junior, beginner   - OG - Mid-level + 2. Selected Universe for Reference: GTA. We started building around this theme. 3. Custom Avatars in Midjourney, themed around GTA and the Bloods gang with red symbolism. 4. Mission = Milestone in a project for the project team or a sale for bizdev. Problems in projects = missions too. 5. NoCoins - in-game currency earned for daily reports, completing missions, or values. They can be exchanged for merchandise or money. 6. Gang Gatherings = weekly calls where everyone shares how their week went and posts weekly photos in a thread. 7. City Map Exploration = learning new tools or market segments, or starting internal projects. 8. My Favorite Mechanic - Not About GTA: Everyone wishes each other good morning every day for over a month! Love it! It’s fun to see which mechanics take root in our culture. Yesterday, my colleague Alina Mykhailovska introduced me to Liroast https://liroast.web.app/ The app promises honest feedback on your LinkedIn profile, and let me tell you, it doesn’t hold back 😕 Out of curiosity, I decided to "roast" my account. To be honest, the results weren’t exactly what I expected. The app's feedback is clearly designed to nudge users towards purchasing their $7 text optimization recommendations. And yes, I was this close to pulling out my wallet. Some might argue that an app can't push you to optimize your profile just by "roasting" it, but try it for yourself - you might be surprised at how convincing it is 🤓 That said, I’m still on the fence. Can an app really provide a solid strategy for improving your profile? Or is it just another sales tactic? I’m not sure yet. But I do think it can offer a few interesting insights, at the very least. Has anyone else tried this app? What do you think, worth it or not?

I acquired knowledge of Agile tester methodology from the Stowarzyszenie Jakości Systemów Informatycznych (Polish Testing Board)! Agile has fascinated me ever since my university professor introduced me to its fundamentals, for which I am eternally grateful. The contents of this syllabus have deepened my understanding of SDLCs in Agile environments and familiarized me with terminology that I might have otherwise overlooked without fully appreciating its value.
