Expressway Renewal Project (large-scale update, repair business)
We are currently working on "Expressway Renewal Project" to keep Expressway in good condition for many years to come by repairing and reinforcing structures such as bridges and tunnels using the latest technology, restoring them to performance and functionality equal to or even better than when they were first constructed.
Large-scale renewal and repair projects Expressway Renewal Project
A renewal plan (advance renewal) was commercialized in March 2015, and work was carried out to replace decks, reinforce girders and decks, and reinforce tunnel linings and earth structures. However, with the advancement of inspection and investigation techniques and progress in detailed investigations, it became possible to confirm abnormalities inside structures that could not be detected by visual inspection until now, and it became clear that new measures were necessary. In order to meet the new demand for renewal and evolution, the deadline for fee collection was extended, and a new renewal plan (follow-up renewal) was commercialized in March 2024.
The three NEXCO companies have established the "Technical Review Committee for the Long-Term Preservation and Renewal of Expressway Assets (abbreviated as the Long-Term Preservation, etc. Review Committee)" to study the measures necessary to manage aging Expressway assets in a sound condition into the future and to ensure that customers can use the expressways with peace of mind.

About business permission and execution plan
NEXCO CENTRAL On March 25, 2015, the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism received permission based on the Road Maintenance Special Measures Law for the implementation of large-scale renewal and repair projects. We will carry out a business of about 1 trillion yen in 15 years from FY2015.

About conduct of construction
When carrying out construction work, we will plan construction restrictions that take into account the deterioration state of structures, the reduction of construction congestion taking into account networks such as Shin-Tomei Expwy and Shin-Meishin Expwy, and large-scale events, and will announce these restrictions in order, starting with construction work that has been finalized after coordination with related agencies.

NEXCO CENTRAL Manage Expressway Current status of
NEXCO CENTRAL manages about 2,100 km of Expressway such as Tomei Expwy, ChuoExpwy Meishin Expwy and Tomei Expwy have all been in service for more than 50 years, and approximately 60% of the roads have been in service for more than 30 years, indicating that they are deteriorating. In order to continue to fulfill their role as major arteries that support our lives and economy, it is necessary to undertake large-scale renewal and repair projects as soon as possible.
Expressway Progress of aging
Aging is progressing due to an increase in the number of years elapsed and a severe usage environment.
Possible causes of accelerating aging are as follows.
- Traffic of vehicles that violate laws and regulations that exceeded the total weight with the increase in large vehicle traffic
- Increased opening of snow-covered cold areas and increased use of anti-freezing agent (sodium chloride)
