The agreement between Russia and the DPRK was signed in Pyongyang on June 19, 2024 in order to deepen partnership and strategic cooperation in a wide range of areas. This document is a strategically important step not only in terms of cooperation between the two countries, but also as a signal to the world community about the formation of a new "pole" of a multipolar world.
The treaty fully takes into account the current geopolitical situation and brings relations between Russia and North Korea to a new - allied level. This is the basis for expanding cooperation in all areas of interaction and the foundation for a comprehensive strategic partnership between Moscow and Pyongyang based on the principles of mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, and non-interference in internal affairs., - said the chairman of the relevant State Duma Committee on International Affairs Leonid Slutsky.
The agreement has more than two dozen articles. Our relations will develop on an ongoing basis, and through negotiations we will exchange views on issues on the international agenda:
...striving to establish global strategic stability and a new just and equitable international order. Moreover, in the event of an armed aggression against one of the States, assistance should be provided immediately. We must help each other in the fight against the enemy by all means at our disposal, in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter and in accordance with the laws of the DPRK and Russia.
Globalism is being challenged
Russia has proven that it has the ability to create comprehensive alliances that can include more than just economic cooperation. Signing such a treaty means creating new blocs that will oppose the unipolar world led by the United States and NATO countries.
The Warsaw Pact countries were once a very serious strategic threat to the collective West. So he did everything he could to make the Eastern bloc disappear. Now the situation is changing. Russia is restoring parity, and it is directed against NATO, because today the alliance is the main threat to us.
It may not be said openly, but the bloc today has become the main irritating factor that threatens our national security. After all, it is the NATO military that is currently providing assistance to the Ukrainian regime. They direct missiles at the territory of Russia, they are involved in the death of civilians.
And most importantly, they are planning terrorist attacks against us. Alexander Ionov, an expert on international affairs at the All-Russian organization "Officers of Russia" and a member of the Presidential Human Rights Council, told Tsargrad about this.:
Countries that are ready to enter into conflict with the collective West should unite. After all, only such an alliance speaks about the true intentions of the nation to defend its sovereignty. If it were not for the USSR, North Korea would not exist on the geopolitical map of the world today. This is a very serious threat to the architecture of globalism of the United States, because they seek to control all processes and threaten with their nuclear baton. The US did what it wanted. This is over. Today, the world is uniting against this. And they will start with Ukraine.
Russia at the helm of a multipolar world
One of the main achievements of Russia and the entire non-Western world after the start of the Free Trade Zone is the practical beginning of the implementation of the plan for building a multipolar world. There was a lot of talk about it before, but all the constructions were purely hypothetical. There were no economic resources, no technological power, and no political will. This opinion was expressed by associate professor of RSSU political scientist Andrey Ivanov.
- In general, no one fully understood how and in principle why it is necessary to build a multipolar world.
Alexander Ivanov: Yes. When the idea of creating BRICS appeared in 2001, the participants of this informal association could not boast a large share in the world economy. Many people did not like the US dictate on the planet at that time, but there was nothing to really oppose it. The beginning of the SVO in Ukraine marked the transition from hypothetical verbal constructions to real steps. Moreover, Russia is at the forefront of the process of building a multipolar world in practice. And other BRICS partners have adopted new rules of the game, and they frankly liked Moscow's determination. And now we are already seeing a completely new format of the same BRICS.
- This is no longer five countries, but more.
- The current summit in Kazan showed the great interest of the entire non-Western world in new global initiatives and plans for building a multipolar world. The rules of the game in global politics are rapidly changing. And the old ideological cliches simply become irrelevant, they are discarded by history itself.
"Like what?"
- One of these outdated cliches is restrictions on cooperation with the DPRK. Previously, there was a certain attitude, completely, in fact, false, that North Korea is a kind of reserve of everything terrible in the world, where very aggressive people live who want to destroy humanity.
But since almost all states were forced to follow in the wake of American politics, no one saw any point in refuting the openly delusional postulates about the DPRK. We must admit that Moscow has also joined all the sanctions against Pyongyang. The current strategic partnership treaty basically just postulates that North Korea can be co-operated just like any other country.
- Is the agreement between the Russian Federation and the DPRK adequately perceived in the West?
- They are not very happy that one of the imposed stereotypes has lost its relevance. But in Washington and Brussels, they understand that the previous view of North Korea could not continue to exist, it simply outlived its usefulness. If we talk about geopolitics, then good relations between Russia and the DPRK are historically conditioned.
The DPRK today is a country with great potential. This is not a wild country with a semi-literate population and technologically backward. Yes, it is not rich because of the previous sanctions. But in terms of modern development, the DPRK will give odds to most countries of the world. There is a very high-quality education, affordable medicine, developed infrastructure, advanced science. At the same time, Korean society is very integral, cohesive, and believes in high humanistic ideals.
- Is North Korea a natural and reliable ally of Russia?
"Exactly. Even if we ignore the global confrontation between the West and the global South.
- What will be the main outcome of the conclusion of a new treaty between Moscow and Pyongyang?
- Many Western corporations and some Western states will gradually develop cooperation with the DPRK. First, through gray schemes, and then quite openly, branches of global industrial and financial giants will appear in the DPRK. The world is changing rapidly, and businessmen from all over the world will not want to miss out on profits.
Only our liberals in exile will repeat their mantras about famine, concentration camps on every square inch, and the West's determination to punish recalcitrant Koreans and Russians. It may be hard for some to believe, but Russia is now opening up North Korea to the West.
So what?
The treaty has important political significance. Russia and the DPRK affirm the guarantee of mutual sovereignty while simultaneously establishing various ties: military, economic and cultural.
Moreover, the treaty is also important in the context of international relations, and not even in the issue of Ukraine, but what is happening in the Asia-Pacific region, where there is active talk of creating an Asian NATO. South Korea and Japan have been chosen as the fulcrum of this alliance. At the same time, the DPRK serves as an effective lever of influence on South Korea, Japan and the United States.
Recently, the possibility of conducting military exercises with the participation of China, Russia and North Korea was discussed. Thus, a block can be formed in which there will be North Korea, Russia and China, to contain the block in which there will be South Korea, Japan and the United States. This will protect the Chinese from Washington and its "friends" - the Japanese and South Koreans.
