Last August MeTV filed a trademark for a new Toons TV network now they have announced that on June 25 they will launch a 24/7 network dedicated to classic cartoons called MeTV Toons. This comes from a report over at Variety.
The new network will include many popular classic shows like Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Scooby Doo, Tom & Jerry, George Jetson, Top Cat, Yogi Bear, Popeye, Johnny Quest and Fred Flintstone. Many of these shows had been on Boomerang but have recently left that network. You will also find some cartoons that aired after 2000 show on MeTV Toons.
MeTV Toon TV is coming to free over-the-air broadcast stations. No word yet on if it will come to streaming services like Frndly TV and Philo that already offer MeTV and/or MeTV 2.
As ATSC 3.0 Nextgen TV grows, the ability to offer more subchannels like this new MeTV Toons will be able to roll out to more markets, reaching a larger audience. Look for new sub-channels to launch in the months to come to fill this need for new content free with an antenna on ATSC 1.0 and 3.0.
Currently, MeTV has not announced what markets this new OTA TV network will come to. It’s very possible many TV stations that already offer MeTV will also add this new MeTV Toons network, but it’s unknown how many of them will. Once that news is announced Cord Cutters News will have full coverage.
