Aiken County superintendent discusses direction of schools
AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - Aiken County schools were the first to head back to the classroom.
As students wrap up their second week of school, the school district’s new superintendent says things are heading in the right direction.
Dr. Corey Murphy says the start to the new school year was “uneventful”, which he says is a great thing.
Schools set to welcome kids in Richmond, Columbia counties
This week is full open houses at the elementary, middle and high schools in both counties, while parents stock up on school supplies. Next week is class.
He says part of this is thanks to a new system that routes school buses, which integrates ‘power school’ to make sure buses are taking the most efficient routes with your students.
“We want to make sure our buses are traveling the most efficient route. Sometimes, the transportation supervisors have to go online, look at a map and try to route it the best way. But now we have a uniform system that does the routes, as well as it talks to power schools. As a kid is updated in our system, the routing software can also get the kid’s name and address to make sure we’re all on the same page,” said Murphy.

Murphy also talked about his thoughts on the new modified schedule.
“Change is difficult for everyone. Some folks say they don’t ever want to go back,” he said.
