The Physical Side of Duchenne:  A Qualified Physical Therapist Physical therapists play a crucial role in the overall treatment plan for Duchenne. However, due to the lack of dystrophin, a physical therapy program for DMD will defy many of the basic principles PTs learn in school. A physical therapist who is unknowledgeable about Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy can actually hasten progression, compromise relationships and thwart long-term independence. The knowledgeable PT on the other hand, just seems to work magic sometimes.
