Please keep in mind that these steps may not work if your school has implemented additional security measures that prevent you from changing your browser settings. Additionally, it is important to be aware that bypassing school-implemented security measures may be against school policy.

Okay, I agree with Clayton’s answer, but I GUESS I gotta tell you.

You want to unblock sites? I have 4 ways. Try this:

  1. Go to http://chrome://inspect/#extensions and then findyour extension. Click “inspect”. There will be a series of topics on the top, click “console”. Then, at the bottom there is a type pad. Write down: window.close(true) THEN BOOM. It’s gone. To reverse this, restart your computer.

And now you can go on it.
  3. Another way would be to click the arrow under the website, and something will appear saying: “Cached”. Click it, and it should work.
  4. Use this as a last resort. With your Chromebook, click “escape”, “reload”, and the power button on the side all at the same time. Turn it on by clicking any button, but don’t click the power button on the side. Then, click ctrl+d. Then, click enter and follow the steps. BAM, your Chromebook is unblocked.

Hope this helps,

AFAIK you can’t w/o modifying things. You can turn on developer mode and boot from a USB drive, but I suspect that would violate school rules.

It is a cleaner solution to buy your own PC. You can get a cheap Chromebook for under $200. A new Laptop on sale goes for around $550. I wouldn’t get refurbished because even with insurance you can’t afford any down time. For a PC get one with at least 8GB ram. You can save some money by going with public domain SW, see LibreOffice - Free Office Suite - Based on OpenOffice - Compatible with Microsoft

This will not unblock the inspect, but on the current OS it will let you view any website on the computer. However, If you do not want to do this, you can always just type cache: and then the website to view a cached version of the game.

(hopefully codepen is unblocked….)

From there press Control+D, which will open the developer mode screen. Press enter on this screen, and your Chromebook will be wiped of all plugins. Many schools use plugins such as Securly to block sites and capture screen data, and those should be removed at this point.

You already know that Kill Switch disables the internet to keep your data safe in case your VPN connection drops, meaning this software is a reactive tool. How does it work? In simple words, it continuously monitors your connection to the remote server, and if a drop is noticed, your device is disconnected from the internet until you regain access.

Doing so is, probably, a violation of your agreement with the school regarding the usage of their equipment.

If you're found to be in violation you could be suspended or even expelled from the school, and, if you didn't return the equipment as it was issued to you, charged with damaging school property or, if you didn't return it at all, with theft.

You don’t.

  1. Don’t hack something like that for learning purposes. Set up your own environment
  2. Asking how to hack is against Quora’s policy

I have tried many times, and the only way to bypass the blocksi extention without fucking up your computer is to get on the blocked site at least an hour past school hours. If it is still blocked, then you may just have to get another unmanaged computer. If you want to fuck up your computer just so you can do whatever, USE THIS AS THE LAST RESORT TO IT. You want to press esc, refresh, and the power button all at ONCE. As you have reached the Chrome OS is missing or damaged, then do ctrl + d. Follow the steps, and BOOM you just fucked up your computer all while getting it unmanaged.

Many before you have come seeking this knowledge. (Said with my best Mandalorian accent)

You need the Root (admin) password to do anything of this sort……Google ships the unit with it locked down pretty tight for the schools. Then they assign a PW to each school for Admin related tasks.

Go to settings and check if linux developer environment is allowed. If it is, enable it. Search up how to install a browser like Brave. Iboss works as a chrome extension. Other apps will not be restricted

I don't have any experience about iboss but i know its about “cybercecurity”. I dont think u can block that because its ur school Chromebook.

YOU CAN USE THESE WAYS TO BLOCK IBOSS

The first step is to find the web categories. Click the Web Security tile on the iboss Home page.

2. Enable a Soft Override on the Web Categories page by selecting "YES" under Enable Block Page Soft Override (figure 2).

In step 3, the soft override should be tested.

How do I uninstall iboss from Windows?

The iboss agent can be uninstalled using the "u" command to remove an existing version from a device. A key from the iboss registry can be removed with the "r" command. Enter the number 1-4 corresponding to the Windows version.

THANKS FOR YOUR QUESTION

a way i found is go to crome web store and get energy browser ot avacado browser or leaf browser or bit browser they all block blocksi so teachers cant see what youre doing on there and every thing is unblocked but they can go to blocksi and see you on whatever your on in crome so move around every once and a while

It's the schools so you cant. The school has locked down your Chromebook and when you try to do something you're not supposed to an email goes to school.

bring your own internet on a mobile phone. If you use the schools network for free, you will have to keep up your end of the deal.

should you have a legit reason for accessing blocked pages (usually wrongly classified forums), then I suggest taking it up with your schools IT department, perhaps there’s other students that need access to that java forum or the like.

Unfortunately, if you don’t have an administrator account on the school’s server, you won’t be able to. More than likely the administrator has created an account for teachers, IT staff, and students. All student have been placed in that account and it is restricted. The permissions to access every site, application, or modify settings, has been blocked and only the administrator has access.

Even teachers have limitations. Yes, then can go an edit files for the school’s records, upload timetables, work schedules, and the curriculum for the school year, that’s about it. They can’t modify settings

With the IT staff, they have more access to change settings based on their role (staff who perform backups, cybersecurity staff, install new applications). Their roles will have some restrictions. It is the administrator who has full access.

Fwi,my school is good, they have blocked all downloads from webstore, inspect element, puting yout own accounts on etc,i cant find a loophole,i dont want to hear any warnings or anything about how i shouldnt,if your gonna say that then please dont comment, last year i used a method that was something like deleting my account and shutting off the cromebook and restarting ect,but i forgot the steps, looking for more unconventional ways like this please, thanks!

You can try to disable Blocksi in your Chromebook's settings. If that doesn't work, you may need to contact your school's IT department for help. You may also be able to gain access to the internet by using a Virtual Private Network (VPN).

There is one way, but do not try it if you don’t want to get in trouble.

Go into your settings app (make sure you are on the latest ChromeOS version), and search “Google Play” up the top. Click on “Google Play Store”. It should be the only menu that comes up. There should be a button that says, “Manage Android Preferences”. Click on that, and it should take you to a new app which looks very different.

Now that you are in this modified settings app, you should see (under “Personal”) “Accounts”, with the little profile icon next to it. Click on that, and then click “Add Account”

Next, click “Google” (hence you adding another google account to the play store, this account being unrestricted). Now log in with your own personal Google account, or create one in that menu.

Now, you should go back to the starting menu of that app, and click Accounts again, but this time click on Google, instead of Add Account. Wait until your personal account has finished syncing, then open the Google Play Store app on your Chromebook

Now, press on the little sidebar icon (three lines stacked vertically near the top left corner), and click on the little drop-down icon (arrow pointing downwards).

Select your personal account from the drop-down, and wait for the Play Store to reload itself.

Search for the app, “Turbo VPN” and download the app with the mostly orange logo.

Open the app, and click on the carrot icon with the orange circle around it (make sure you are connected to the school’s Wi-Fi while doing this), and you’re finished!

You are now able to access any website, but I wouldn’t recommend going to TV streaming sites like Netflix, because your VPN may be located in a location that isn’t legally able to provide TV-streaming for your country.

Please do not try this unless you take the risk of your computer being taken completely, and maybe even have a little legal trouble.

Thank you.

If you want to be expelled, or otherwise punished, just to get onto sites your school has blocked, I’ll have to disappoint you.

The IT department usually has all ways to avoid a block covered.

As a person who has worked in IT, you can't. Those computers are managed by policies set by the IT department, and only admin can override them.

On most website blocks I have seen used in schools, the sites are blocked before the request hits the DNS server (or may even be blocked by a local DNS resolution server)

What that means, is say they decide to block Quora, they will block the domain http://www.quora.com, so if you type in that domain, the server responsible for blocking that website will block that domain request before it is sent to the DNS resolution server

What that means, is say they decide to block Quora, they will block the domain http://www.quora.com, so if you type in that domain, the server responsible for blocking that website will block that domain request before it is sent to the DNS resolution server

How a DNS resolution server works, in simple terms, is it translates something we relate to (a word, in this case quora and domain type, in this case commercial or .com) and converts it into something that more digitally understood (IP addresses)

The best way to describe this would be how we understand home addresses, when we announce that we are going to a known place, we say something like “Hey, I’m going to Mike’s house”, we all know who Mike is and where he lives, so it makes no sense to say “Hey, I’m going to 123 Fake St. Fauxville, Madeupstate, USA”, “Mike’s house” would be an example of a domain

Now say you have controlling parents, they know where Mike lives, and don’t want you going there, but they don’t know the mailing address, saying the mailing address would be the best way to get away with getting permission to go

Same thing with website blocks, most blocks will block the domain, but not the IP, so if you bypass the DNS lookup and connect directly via it’s IP, so instead of going to http://www.quora.com, you would go to 192.229.182.210, then you should be able to access quora unblocked

In order to search for what IP a certain website uses, you need to do a reverse DNS lookup, this can usually be done by pinging a website by it’s domain name and seeing what IP it starts to ping, for example, when you ping quora.com, it will begin pinging 192.229.182.210

This may not always work, but it’s always worth a shot of you need to visit a blocked website and can’t or shouldn’t change settings

Yet another inappropriate/illegal/impossible/ridiculous “How do I” or “how can I” question and your question count is still supposedly 18.

The answer is that you don’t. The whole point is to keep idiots like you from doing a dumb on corporate networks.

School Chrome books are commonly used by both students and teachers to access online resources. To promote focus and productivity and protect students from potentially harmful or inappropriate content, school administrators may opt to restrict access to certain websites on these devices.

  1. Schools may choose to ban websites on Chrome books for a variety of reasons, including:
  2. To keep students from accessing unsuitable or offensive content: It is the responsibility of schools to keep pupils safe from dangerous or improper content online. Schools can help to guarantee that pupils are not exposed to improper or objectionable content by blocking specific websites.
  3. Schools aim to ensure that students and teachers utilize their gadgets for educational reasons in order to retain focus and productivity. Schools can help students focus and be productive by limiting websites that are distracting or unrelated to their academic work.
  4. To protect kids from cyber bullying and other online safety hazards, schools may restrict websites known to be utilized for cyber bullying or other online safety risks.

So typically you can’t. Keep in mind two things here:

First, that kind of tools is specifically designed not to be disabled from the device itself. This is to prevent not only the end-user from tampering with the protections on the device, but also to prevent a bad actor from getting malware to do it for them. (Yes, a Chromebook can be attacked…not in the traditional sense of a virus, but more from a third party add in which has vulnerabilities)

Second, the device doesn’t belong to you. The school provided it for a specific purpose, and they have to support that device.

You jailbreak them. To do that, just hold Escape+Refresh+Power for three seconds. This will open the Chrome OS recovery page, which should have a picture of a USB stick on it. Restart the Chromebook and continue with the setup, which should automatically connect to the schools setup menu. Log in normally and access sites without the plugins blocking the sites. Please note that this may not work if your school uses a network-based block, and some sites such as YouTube will still be blocked by the Chromebook default school settings.

EDIT: Many users have commented that this did not work for them, I have tried this on an Acer model that was under school management successfully. As with jailbreaking any device, there are risks involved so please make sure you know your device specifications and how to factory reset in the case of an issue.

Your school enrolled your Chromebook, which means that they can manage it with an Admin console. You can only reset that by removing the battery, which means unscrewing and taking apart your Chromebook. If you can take it home, you can do that. There are tons of tutorials on YouTube off that. I myself am searching for solutions as the one listed above doesn't work for me.

You don't.

You say “school computer": this implies that the actual (physical) computer belongs to the school. In the USA (where I am located), unauthorized access to a computer or to computing resources can be considered a Federal offence (and most states have similar laws as well).

Remember when the device (Chromebook) was issued to you? If you are a minor (not of legal age / not of the age of majority) your parents signed an “appropriate use policy". These penalties apply not only to the end user (you) but to the responsible party (your parents) if convicted.

Are there ways around administrative lockdowns? Sure there are. Am I going to share them with you? No way. There's no way, as an IT professional, that I'm going to subvert legal control of a computing asset and compromise both my livelyhood and reputation and my freedom.

Well you go tell them at school that you want it done and you want it now.

You don’t own the Chromebook. Want to look at whatever then go buy a laptop.

The older chromebooks have a switch, hidden behind a black sticker inside the battery compartment! Pull the battery, remove the sticker, flip the switch, put the battery back and reboot!

Voila! You have successfully unlocked your chromebook.

I’m not sure whether this is true of ALL chromebooks though.

  1. Be the school IT admin
  2. Go into the control panel and remove the domain from the blocklist, or add it to the whitelist.

A2A:

It isn't the Chromebook. It wouldn't matter if you're on a Chromebook, Windows laptop, Mac, iPhone, Android, etc. The blocking is being done at the router level or there's something on the network like OpenDNS Umbrella that is enforcing a policy on all network connected equipment.

Of course, you could go to the network settings on your Chromebook and change the Name Server entry, but there's no guarantee that will work.

Since you mentioned that this is equipment that belongs to the school, then the answer is "no" because the equipment isn't owned by you.

Easy answer you can’t! If your school blocks incognito mode forget it! Your and other history is easily accessed by your school’s IT administrator (basically your school computer person).

That is pretty much the reason why incognito mode cannot be enabled.

my school uses go guardian, and a WiFi block. There used to be two methods i used to use but they don’t work anymore. The methods were resetting http://chrome://flags and turning off sync settings. Developer mode is inaccessible, i cannot inspect extensions to delete them.

You don’t.

Try obeying rules and laws instead of committing illegal acts. It’s not your Chromebook. It’s the schools. Hacking it is a Federal Crime for which you will most assuredly go to prison. Look forward to a career flipping burgers - if even a fast food place will hire you with a federal criminal record.

You should be spending long hours of hard toil studying for a meaningful, productive career, instead of being a lazy worthless lay about attempting to illegally hack computers, headed for a worthless life of crime.

IBOSS is built to prevent “industriousness students” from overriding their system. An attempt to do so is grounds for removal of your ability to use the school's Chromebook and the district's network.

You don’t. You wrote it yourself, this is a school Chromebook. Go find and read your Acceptable Use Policy. Pretty good chance that trying to is a violation of that policy. It’s be kind of like spray painting the cafeteria wall to cover up the rules posted there. Actually, asking the question here may well be a violation of that same policy. Use your personal device for personal stuff, your school device for school stuff and you won’t go wrong.

Ditto to Mr. Van Damme. The Chromebook belongs to the school. They did not pay for someone to administer IBOSS so some ignorant child could steal time on their network.

You can’t. Welcome to the real world. It is not YOUR Chromebook. It is the property of the school district. If you want to go to a site they do allow, then get your own device. That’s why we use IBOSS. There is a way around, but it will probably get you expelled and you will lose your Chromebook.
