TOKYO — Japanese fashion company Orizzonti said Friday it has filed for bankruptcy protection with the Tokyo District Court.
The company is the distributor for a series of international brands, including Ann Demeulemeester, Vivienne Westwood and Patrizia Pepe.
It also has a series on in-house brands including Interplanet, Actuel and IP International.
The company’s debt totals 8.4 billion yen, or about $91 million. The company’s sales peaked in 1999 at 11.6 billion yen, or $125.4 million, but have since dwindled to 9.1 billion yen, or about $98 million.
Orizzonti’s plans could not be determined as of press time. But sources in Japan indicate that at least two companies have shown an interest in distributing some of the company’s brands in Japan.
