Latta High School was recently honored by the Oklahoma State Department of Education for being a High-Performing School in Oklahoma.
In a letter to LHS Principal Stan Cochran, State Superintendent of Public Instruction Joy Hofmeister said, “This outstanding achievement sets your school apart and is a testament to you and your staff’s persistent pursuit of excellence in education. Designation as a High-Performing School means yours is a learning community in which students continually thrive or show significant growth in achievement.”
Latta School Superintendent Cliff Johnson stated, “We are extremely proud of our students and staff for earning this high distinction. We know this is the result of a team effort between students, parents, community patrons, as well as teachers and staff including both those current and from previous years who all help to provide a solid foundation for our students to achieve future success.”
LHS students have consistently excelled in ACT and standardized test scores, academic and extracurricular competitions and in a wide array of leadership endeavors. The rural Pontotoc County school of approximately 200 students in grades nine-12 aspires to instill in its students the stated core values of the Latta School District that include integrity, honor, dependability, commitment and accountability.
