Merger of Schools OK'd

Patrons of the Big Cabin school district in northeastern Oklahoma have voted to merge with Vinita.

Unofficial returns show voters approved the proposal Tuesday by 224-187.

Big Cabin school officials voted last fall to cease operations at the end of the school year. They had been urged to do so by state education officials.

The district includes parts of Craig, Rogers and Mayes counties.

But enrollment dropped below 100 students this year.

Voters in the district earlier rejected proposals to merge with Adair and White Oak schools.
