Getting a fault for lifting your hand to say thank you is ridiculous. The reason was beacuse they took their hand off the wheel - but its fine to remove your hand from the wheel when you have to change gear....thats 10/10 logic.
I recently passed my test and I really believe these videos are the reason why I definitely suggest anyone who is going for the test to binge watch these videos
I think the third serious fault (13:23) for hesitation was harsh and should have been a minor. He didn't come to a complete stop and didn't hesitate long but slowed down too much. I did that on a real test and received a minor for it.
I passed my test last year in July, only had 1 minor due to me stalling on a flat bit of road , but watching these videos defiantly helped me pass the way I did. Still watch these videos to learn and become a better driver, keep up the great work big man .
I think while you're still learning and during your test, it's safer not to show any physical sign of politeness (raise a hand as a thank you) - there's nothing wrong in doing so. But once you've passed, then you've got more freedom to choose.
Interesting... I said thank you at least twice during my test (because weirdly enough, the other drivers were being really patient/considerate with me) and still passed, didn't count as a fault either.
On the question about saying thank you: I would probably stick to a nod of the head during the test but in real life, a quick hand signal is very polite and perfectly safe. In fact, I feel people can get stressed and angry (a little bit) if you don't say thank you for giving priority to you, and anger is dangerous, so I would say please always DO say thank you clearly.
What is with these thumbnails . One of these days Pin will have a thumbnail of him gagged in the boot with the learner ready to close the boot lid and the title reading; "Learner gets frustrated with the instructor".
Personally I think serious faults 2 and 3 are very harsh, you don’t get a serious for hesitating for 5 seconds and you also wouldn’t always get a serious for letting someone out of a side road.
8:07 Can only assume the minor fault for saying thank you in that other case is because they didn't have two hands on the wheel already, so there was no control over steering for that brief thank you section
I would like to take this mock test even though I have been driving for 23 years, just to see what habits I've picked up and what proper procedures I have forgotten!
Didn't look like he was going to stop if it wasn't for that car. He was looking to the right before fully stopping to check for oncoming traffic which suggests that he may have moved off without stopping if there was no car. That car saved him from getting an additional serious driving fault by the looks of it.
One thing worse than failing your test and that's been told you're still not ready to take it! I've had like almost 100 hours now and three mock tests where I've made one serious error and a few minors in each so I think that's not bad but my instructor still feels I'm not quite there yet. And today's lesson didn't go too well. I just sometimes make these rash errors on the lessons with my instructor, like going too early at a roundabout and then trying to overtake a cyclist on a bendy hill. Two things I know I would not usually do! So perhaps it's just relaxing a little too much during lessons and knowing that the instructor can take over if needed. Should also add that today was the first time I've driven at night so that probably had a part to play.
Or maybe I'm just not good at driving which is just depressing in itself but can't give up after all this money and effort. I'm almost 40 so age doesn't help but after this many hours I should be there. It is really demoralising. I've had three instructors with some bad experiences with the previous two, some big gaps in between but I started around April 2022 so it's been a long time. My test is in two weeks and if I have rebook I'll have to wait like four months.
I think what's really depressing is the fact that driving is not difficult. I mean everyone can drive just about so for me to take this long and struggle even now makes me very inadequate and worthless as a human being. I've never been that confident in myself, have an unfulfiling job, haven't had a relationship for several years and at my age now probably will end up alone, so this just another point of failure which is why I feel so low.
I did it on my driving lesson in Poland !! Fortunately it wasn’t driving test. I came to toilet and then i was about to drive off but I realised that I haven't fastened my seatbelt
he came to a stop I'd say there around 14:24, before creeping a bit further forward to go. Sometimes people don't stop right on the give way / stop lines I've noticed and hold a little back
I think it's a bit silly to get a fault for thanking another driver. If it's safe, what's the problem? You take one hand off the wheel to change gear, use the auxiliary controls etc. If you're able to keep control over the steering for those, lifting your hand for a second to show appreciation/politeness is a non-issue?
Seatbelts should be an automatic instinct when you get on a plane or in a car. They are there to protect you and that stupid piece of fabric does a very very good job at keeping you restrained.
Shouldn't leaving a parking spot without looking(can cause crash) be a worse fault than no safety belt(not likely to cause crash but can make the consequences worse if there is)?
