Graduate studies at York consists of three academic terms: Fall term, Winter term, and Summer term.

Fall 2024

Types of Dates and Monthly Reminders for the Semester

SEPTEMBER Date	Reminder
2	Labour Day
4	Fall term (FA24 and Fall/Winter Y24–25) start.

OCTOBER Date	Reminder
12-18	Fall Reading Week (no classes, University open).
14	Thanksgiving Day (University closed).

DECEMBER Date	Reminder
3	Fall term [FA24] classes end.
4	Fall Study Day (no classes; University open).
Dec 5 – 20	Fall [FA24] Examinations. Check with your Course Director.
Dec 21 – Jan 5	Winter Break—University closed

SEPTEMBER Date	Reminder
18	Last date to add a course without permission of instructor for Fall [FA24] and Fall/Winter [Y24–25] term courses.

OCTOBER Date	Reminder
2	Last date to add a course with permission of instructor for Fall [FA24] term courses (via Course Transaction Form).
16	Last date to add a course with permission of instructor for Fall/Winter [Y24–25] courses (via Course Transaction Form).
TBD	Fall 2024 Convocation.
22	Online registration for Fall [FA24] term ends. Manual Registration Form required after this date. Online course withdrawal ends. Course Transaction form required after this date.

NOVEMBER Date	Reminder
8	Drop Deadline: Deadline to drop course(s) without receiving a grade (via manual form), Fall [FA24] term. Courses dropped after this date (via petition), will be reflected with a W grade.
30	Deadline for Graduate students to apply to graduate in February 2025.

DECEMBER Date	Reminder
15	Students who did not register for Fall term [FA24] will be withdrawn from the program for failure to maintain continuous registration unless a Leave of Absence was approved.
20	Deadline to register for Winter term [WI25].
21	$200 Late registration fee for Winter term [W25] will be applied.

SEPTEMBER
10	Deadline for payment of fees, Fall term [FA24].
30	Refund—100% refund date for Fall [FA24] term.

OCTOBER
15	Refund—80% refund date for Fall [FA24] term.
31	Refund—40% refund date for Fall [FA24] term. Deadline for reassessment at the domestic tuition rate for the current Fall/Winter session. For international students requesting a status change.

NOVEMBER
18	Recommended date to apply for Winter-only OSAP and submit supporting documents.

DECEMBER
21	$200 Late registration fee for Winter term [WI25] will be applied.

NOVEMBER
1	Deadline for Students to submit Research Proposals for Ethics to program office for approval to commence in January 2025.
4	Deadline for submission of Ethics Proposals requiring ORE approval for MRP Research using human subjects to the Faculty of Graduate Studies.
6	Deadline for Graduate Programs to submit Research Proposals for Ethics to FGS for approval to commence in January 2025.
8	Deadline for the Faculty of Graduate Studies to receive recommendations for Oral examination from Graduate Programs for Doctoral students expected to fulfill all degree requirements for February 2025 convocation.
15	Deadline for the Faculty of Graduate Studies to receive recommendations for Oral examination from Graduate Programs for Master’s students expected to fulfill all degree requirements for February 2025 convocation.

DECEMBER
6	Last day to hold Master’s/Doctoral defence exams in the Fall [FA24] term (for Fall term completion). Exams held after this date will be coded for Winter term [WI25].
31	Deadline to upload Electronic Thesis and Dissertation for FA24 completion and February 2025 degree conferral.

NOVEMBER
15	Recommended deadline to submit Academic Petition (e.g. leave of absence, change to part-time/full-time status, extension of program time limits, reinstatement) for Winter [WI25] term (processing before W25 guaranteed).

DECEMBER
31	Final deadline to submit Academic Petition (e.g. leave of absence, change to part-time/full-time status, extension of program time limits, reinstatement) for Winter [WI25] term (processing before W25 not guaranteed).

SEPTEMBER
15	Administrative Deadline – Deadline for graduate programs to submit summer term grades to the Registrar’s Office.
20	Adminstrative Deadline – Deadline for graduate program to submit degree audit for October Convocation.

OCTOBER
15	Administrative Deadline—All summer [SU24] term courses with blank and incomplete grades converted to F grade unless an approved course extension has been granted.

Winter 2025

6	University Open
6	Winter [WI25] term classes begin.

FEBRUARY Date	Reminder
15 — 21	Winter Reading Week (no classes, University open).
17	Family Day—University closed.

APRIL Date	Reminder
7	Winter Study Day.
18	Good Friday—University closed.
8 — 25	Fall/Winter [Y24-25 and Winter [WI25] examinations. Check with your Course Director.

JANUARY	Reminder
20	Last date to add a course without permission of instructor for Winter [WI25] courses.
27	Online Registration ends for Winter [WI25] term. Manual Registration and/or Course Transaction Forms required after this date.
31	Last date to add a course with permission of instructor for Winter [WI25] term courses (via Course Transaction Form).

FEBRUARY	Reminder
7	Deadline to drop course(s) without receiving a grade for Fall/Winter [Y24–25] term courses. Courses dropped after this date, via petition, will be given a W grade.

MARCH	Reminder
14	Deadline to drop a course without receiving a grade for Winter [WI25] term courses. Courses dropped after this date (via petition) will be reflected with a W grade.

April	Reminder
1	Summer [SU25] term registration and enrolment online access begins.
4	Fall/Winter [Y24–25] and Winter [WI25] term classes end.
30	All degree requirements, including final grades, must be met by April 30, 2025 to convocate in June 2025.
30	Deadline for Graduate Students to apply to graduate for Spring 2025 Convocation.

11	Deadline for the Faculty of Graduate Studies to receive recommendations for Oral examination from Graduate Programs for Doctoral students expected to fulfill all degree requirements for June 2025 convocation.
18	Deadline for the Faculty of Graduate Studies to receive recommendations for Oral examination from Graduate Programs for Master’s students expected to fulfill all degree requirements for June 2025 convocation.

APRIL
18	Deadline to hold Master’s/Doctoral defence exams in the Winter [WI25] term to fulfill part of the requirements in order to graduate for June 2025 convocation.
25	Deadline to upload Electronic Thesis and Dissertation for Winter [WI25] term in order to graduate and be eligible for June 2025 convocation ceremony.

MARCH
15	Recommended deadline to submit Academic Petition (e.g. leave of absence, change to part-time/full-time status, extension of program time limits, reinstatement) for Summer [SU25] term (processing before SU25 guaranteed).

APRIL
30	Final deadline to submit Academic Petition (e.g. leave of absence, change to part-time/full-time status, extension of program time limits, reinstatement) for Summer [SU25] term (processing before S25 not guaranteed).

JANUARY
15	Administrative Deadline—Deadline for graduate programs to submit Fall [FA24] term grades to the Registrar’s Office.
20	Administrative -Deadline – Deadline for Graduate programs to submit degree audit to Registrar’s office before February convocation.
