It was meant to be David Lammy’s big week: on Tuesday he was to deliver what his office billed as “his first major foreign policy speech”, the Kew lecture, no less. Later his team released footage of the foreign secretary, in slow motion, walking through the majestic greenery of Kew Gardens, adding a soundtrack of uplifting music. In his speech Lammy declared that wars and terrorism were, in effect, mere symptoms of the climate crisis: “There will be no global stability without climate stability.”
