They don't want to censor the "harmful" site, they just don't want to hear about people's criticism of their shite work. A lot of these ministry members are also users of the "harmful" site

As a Malaysian, I am telling this now... Malaysian Ministers values people with loyalty more than intelligence. Let that sink it.

They even ban a whole website where malaysian artist use to show off their portfolio just because some of the art got copyright issue with a ministry. Bunch of out of touch fossils calling shots.

As a Malaysian, I'm really happy that this DNS situation is gaining some kind of international attention. We really need to prevent the government from trying to implement this again.

As a Malaysian-Born, I just wanna say thank you Mutahar, and also the rest of you amazing folks from across the world for tuning in and giving your genuine two cents. While this isn't a good look for our country, perhaps we can see this in a better light in that : we the beloved peeplez of the interwebs should band together & ridicule / criticize any government who is willing to shackle and censor it's people's basic rights to common internet autonomy.

What makes this whole thing funnier is that the person who pushed the DNS block is the very same person who believes in internet free speech.

Absolutely agreed, governments should not try to prevent people from accessing the internet.

Lmao, Indonesia also try to pull the same moves awhile ago. But they did a poor job on it. Eventually exposed how weak the goverment websites are and protest by hacking it multiple times as a results since IT support in government mostly result of nepotism than actual skills lol. Outsourcing IT is the norm and few of my friends from colleges that worked at those companies said the website and servers level is no better than college projects at best and highschooler projects at worse lmao.

I'm Brazilian and I basically agree with everything Muta said, but I'd also like to add: in Brazil's case, it's not just Twitter. They've done this many times before. Rumble is currently not available here. They've also banned and unbanned WhatsApp and Telegram multiple times. They've completely deplatformed, fined and arrested people for posts, private messages, DMs, to the point that a couple people have fled the country. It's not quite a China situation, but it's still pretty bad, and with the way it is currently I feel it's only gonna get worse. I get it that a lot of people mean well because some of the people and content they're banning is pretty bad, so they don't care, but I feel like it's already WAY over the line. Don't get fooled that just because it's Elon being a manchild it isn't bad. It is.

Malaysian government is still in Mahathir era mindset when it come to Internet. They believe Internet is easy to control, monitored also can shut down critics (even worse arrested for criticising government's policy). I'm incredibly embarrassed and sorry for Fahmi Fadhil and his cronies action.

Hi Muta, this whole thing has been happening in Turkey for YEARS now. They blocked Roblox and Wattpad because "kids need safety on the internet" In fact Turkey is one of (if not the) countries with the MOST blocked websites, ever.

* I am from Singapore .. and i can tell you Msia is actually in a very desperate situation. For SOME REASON ** their ministers really CANNOT implement anything useful that can help their citizens - everything that need to turn right, instead they build a road that "turns left". If you can understand that illustration, it is the answer why certain roads, highways and infrastructure projects take beyond 20 years to complete. (Best part of all some policies are still being argued, debated, but never completed.) The only thing know how to do is not happy - censor here and there, and collect "pocket change" from time to time.
