I do not agree on your does not log IP's argument. Protonmail does not log IP's, and many VPN's do not log IP's.
You are mixing up logging and observing. Any service you use will see the origin IP you are connecting from, the question is what happens with that information? And a good VPN either deletes this data the moment you disconnect and thus do not log it since the act of logging is the act of documenting it, or prevent this from being saved in general.

AzireVPN tells you the technical details of how they pull this off, they use a kernel module that actively blocks these kernel calls from userspace. So the VPN services Can serve you, but external observation tools can no longer observe this data. Sure, there are more places we need to be weary off like the firewalls in their network. Should we assume our IP's are not logged by any of these services? No. That part i can agree upon, because even if the services genuinely do not log anything their internet providers could be logging stuff. But then you can't see which IP belongs to which account because that needs to be stored at a server level, which in AzireVPN's case all is running from ram with no HDD access and these kernel modules loaded. It will be pretty damm hard to get logs out of there.

So back to Protonmail, do they log IP's? Maybe, but i find it credible that they do not. It requires modification to their services to not log these things, but its technically possible to disable or corrupt this kind of logging to the point it is not useful. The question here is, can they be MADE to log. The answer to that is yes and they have been transparent about this. They CAN be made to log after the fact and will then share the details, because as a business they have to oblige with a court order.

According to their story, French police sent an Europol request to ProtonMail in order to uncover the identity of the person who created a ProtonMail account — the group was using this email address to communicate. The address has also been shared on various anarchist websites.

I skimmed through the article and the Twitter thread, as well as Ctrl+F searching for "tuancy" and "school", yielding no results.
Is the claim BS, am I missing something, or is there another link he forgot to include?
