A priest who claimed from the pulpit that a woman was deliberately infecting parishioners with Aids is being kept under garda surveillance.
Michael Kennedy, a third cousin of the American president John F Kennedy, has been dismissed as a parish priest, but he has not been laicised.
“He is out of ministry and is subject to a monitoring programme involving both the diocesan authorities and the gardai,” said a church spokesman.
Kennedy lives under diocesan sanctions in a church-owned house.
He was disciplined following a canonical inquiry 10 years ago. The diocese has refused to say what prompted the inquiry other than that it was “an allegation of misconduct”.
